not at your hospital my dear but my 1st appt after referal was with a community dietician under the WLS team, we discussed my previous attempts at losing weight, what i'd done and how i saw the future....my 2nd appt was with the surgeon himself, and 15 mins before that with the senior dietician at the hospital...again we just went through what i'd already done at stage 1, the surgeon asked me lots of questions re weightloss, diets etc but was never judgemental, and finally he told me i was a suitable candidate for the surgery....that's my shortened version of my story...but i guess yours and everyone elses will be slightly different....i'm sure someone will be along shortly to put your mind at ease as to your hospital and surgeon...good luck with it all tho

Hi Vicki, just wanted to say hello. Sorry, I know nothing about yr surgeon. Hope someone will have the info for you soon x

I should think that Dr Taheri will be on his best behaviour after what happened with me. Just understand that they won't really discuss surgery with you at the first appointment and it will be more of looking at your weight from an emotional perspective. He will set you some goals, you will see the dietician and you will probably be given more weight loss drugs. Then they will see you in 3-4 months. According to their clinical director, this is the standard procedure.

If he upsets you, tell him. I just took it and he said I should have stood up to him.

Hiya Vicky, I am under the Heartlands for my gastric band but i am not with Dr Taheri i am with Mr Paul Super, When i had my first appointment, i was firstly weighed and had my height done, then i went into see Mr Super's registrar, we had a little chat and he asked me what diets i had done, and i said you name them i have done them, he went through the procedure with me, asked me if i had any medical problems and on medication, i said no, and he said you can come in as day case then, next i went to see the dietician who spoke about the pre op and post op diets, and gave us all a information pack on what she'd spoke about ( i was in with the dietician with a group of 5 others ), then about 4-5 weeks later i got my date through the door for my pre op assessment and my date for actual surgery, and was told in the letter to lose between 7-14kg's in weight. I hope that its the same for you and dont let Dr Taheri upset you, if he does then do what Fashionably Late says stand up to him the more people do that the more he will think twice about upsetting people. i wish you all the luck in the world, let us know how it all goes X

He wouldn't let me do the other weight loss drugs due to antidepressants but he did make me do Xenical again and he prescribed a different antidepressant.

He was simply very, very rude to me. He attacked me for being fat, put marriage down as my husband lives away during the workweek and I stay home with the kids and it just went on from there.

I have been removed from his care and have been given a different doctor in this unit to see. He has apologised to me but what he said still hurts. He wouldn't even discuss the surgery with me at all and showed me some sort of graph that showed I would end up just as fat with surgery. His boss though has stated my file does state that he would refer me for surgery once I met his initial criteria which was working out for 30 minutes per day, eating less fattening foods and made a conscious lifestyle change.

Good luck and I do hope you have a better experience. The system at Heartlands changed in the last month and you see Dr Taheri or someone who reports to him and the dietician. The dietician I saw, Annemarie, was very kind.
