size before band

hi hope i dont offend anyone by posting this, how heavy in stones and what size were u before u had the band done..... im waiting to have the bypass but sick of the waiting time almost 3 years now from the start to where i am today, i have the funding but am now thinking of going private for the band in stead... as im on the waitng list since january when mr kumar agreed to do the operation and im not going to be operated on until next year its really getting me down im 25 stone and in 30 32 clothes hope u can give me some advice
many thanks xxxx

I was a size 26 and now a 16-18 and used to weigh 17st 2lbs and now weight 13stones exactly and I have a band. :)

the higher the bmi the harder it is to achieve target weight with a band, i was 20st 2llbs before my 1st band, if the surgeon recommends a bypass for you then its probably worth waiting x

thanks liz for the advice i think ur right im just hacked of with the heartlands mr kumar told me id be done by the end of the year but now i wont im on the list but there are 100,s in front of me.. so frustrating as i was having the op at telford then the consultand lost the contract for the operation so had to go to birmingham where ive started at the bottom of the ladder... so unfair and frustrating xx

I've barely lost anything with the band.

So I'm not sure what to say to you.

May be you can stretch to a bypass privately. Ultimately there is work to be done with both procedures.

theres so many people struggling with bands at the moment and wishing they had held out for a bypass, my band did work for me as i lost 8st 10llbs with it, but its really hard work and if your not suited to it then it would be wasting your time and your money, the surgeon obviously recommended a bypass over a band for a reason....good luck with what ever you decide x

I was 16 stone 10 and a size 22/24. I had a band on 1st June and I am now 12 stone 10 and a size 16. i am really pleased with my band but i do eat healthily and exercise - only walking - but still more than I used to do.
I would still say to wait for your bypass if thats whats been recommended. If you choose the band for the wrong reasons it may be even harder for you and a lot of people are struggling even when they chose the band.
Its only my opinion but I hope it helps
Best wishes

I agree that if your eating habits and other factors make you more suitable for a bypass, then you should try and follow the surgeons advice to make life easier for yourself.
I know what it's like to have a band but be better suited to a bypass but it was too late for me to change.
I do not like the band bashing that happens on here, but I do try and stay objective...if you have the option to have a bypass on the NHS and the surgeon is saying that's what you should have, then you would be better off listening to him and agreeing.

Hi

I was 19 stone and am now 13 stone 10. Was a size dont know really - mostly squeezed into stretchy things but can now get into most size 16's, I say most as it depends on leg length and boob room lol.

I think the others are right if you were advised to have a bypass and there is a chance of getting NHS funding go for it! With any procedure you have a window of good weight loss after which time it requires a bit more work to shift.

If you are fed up with the waiting could you stretch to a bypass privatley if that what you really want?

Good luck x

Hi Guys.

I for one was offered the bypass and tbh even though it has not gone swimmingly , I dont regret having a band and definately dont regret not holding out for a bypass. I knew in my hearts of heart that I wanted a band all along and even when my surgeon offered me the bypass too me. As I said I know it hasnt gone as smooth as I would like but on the upside I still am a stone lighter then I was at the end of July.

Thanks for reading - Julie xx

I was 22 stone and size 26/28 now 18stone 3 and size 18/20 find the band wonderful as in makes me not hungry all day like I used tobe and even when bored I dont turn to food anymore just another 4 stone to go and I will be a happy bunny and no longer single if I can build up my self confidence. Band doesnt do it all for you it is like belt and braces cant comment on bypass as not had it but just remember thinking it is forever and I want to be able to say ok have a bit of fluid out of band and have a good christmas or holiday and not worry about eating for a couple of weeks as I can go have it filled back up again and start off on my journey again. Good luck in whatever you choose x

I had my band 18 months ago and weighed almost 20 stone and wore size 26/28 clothes. I'm now 14 and a half stone and wear a size 18 clothes. I had problems with my band being too tight and went around 3 months with no loss at all. It's still too tight but I'm hoping to get a defill soon so the weight may drop again. The band was my choice because I ate large portions but please listen to what your surgeon advises as a band may not suit your eating habits so would be a waste of time and money. Good luck with whatever you decide to do sweetheart xxx
