As im now having a sleeve im doing my research and wondered if we still lose or hair with the sleeve ????
Thanks all xx

Hi Dawn,

I take part in a few specialist sleeve forums and unfortunately it does appear that *some* (but not all) sleevers do experience hair loss.

Again, I think it comes down to protein intake and the your own genetics / likelihood for hairloss.

Everyone does gain it back again, from the numerous threads I have read !!!

I was asked this by a year post op sleever "have you lost any hair?" (she has lost quite a bit). I think it's a bit early to tell (7 weeks) but as yet, none as I have noticed.

As has been said, keep the protein up to lessen the risk.

Hiya i started to loose my hair, went thin after 8 weeks, am 13 weeks now and still the same, but its not noticeable only to me.

Hey peeps

I'm just over 4 months post sleeve op and I am experiencing hair loss ;(

So I've tried to up my protien I have been assured by my doctor that it will grow back nice and thick!!

Small price to pay for the weight loss xx

I had a band nearly 3 months ago and have noticed a lot of hair falling out in the last week. I think it's because I did the two weeks of fluids after the op and my hair wasn't getting any vitamins... I think the hair cycle is about 3 months so if you starve yourself now, the little bit of nutrients you do eat gets used up on the vital organs and less inportant things (like your hair) dont get any nutrients so will notice a loss in about 3 months. I don't know the science but that's about the jist of it! Lol xx

Hi

I had my sleeve done on 21/05/2011.
My hair started falling out approx 6-8 weeks post op. It continued until approx 2 months ago. My hair definitely got much thinner and my hairdresser confirmed this, but thankfully over the last couple of months it's started to grow back and I can now feel it getting thicker :)
I've always taken multi vitamins and also eaten a lot of protein but I think it just happens. Try not to worry about it if you can ;)

Thanks for that, i know its silly but my hair is pretty fine so any loss will be noticable.

It's not silly at all. I was really worried too but it seems a small price to pay for all the weight I've lost. I now have my confidence back and feel great! I'm sure you will too xx

I am 1 year post sleeve and my hair is quite fine anyway due to underactive thyroid, I do lose hair but usually strands rather than clumps and is less noticable as its short anyway.
I take a daily multivitamin/mineral to help compensate for reduced diet and as I find getting full protein requirement difficult I have started having a daily pint of milk (20g protein) if not getting enough meat.
I also remember to condition my hair when washing and also use protein and heat protection treatments as well.
I also found skin gets quite dry so use a combination of aloe vera/cocoa butter body lotion after shower to keep skin supple and help it shrink with weight loss.
