hi everyone,
I'm having my bypass this afternoon, and cannot wait! I've been on the LRD for 1 week and can't believe I've have lost nearly a whole stone.
It's taken me 3 years of wanting this but not having the confidence to tell anyone or do anything about it apart from lots and lots of research, but that has changed. I literally woke up on the 6th of March and thought "right this is my life, my health and I need to do something about it". I managed to get an appointment with the surgeon I wanted at the hospital I wanted four days later. I told nobody apart from a very good friend who wouldn't let me go by myself, and I'm so grateful she was with me.
It took another 3 days for me to tell my husband, let's just say he is coming round to the idea but would rather I didn't go through with it. My grown up kids have been great and the only other people who know are my mother in law (she's a star) and my brother who was all doom and gloom and told me about a bypassed friend who was a complete failure!
But I will do this because I have to, I have no choice!
Sorry if I've rambled on a bit. xx
Wow! what positive action and bless you, I hope all is okay and that you are now on 'the other side' ready for the losers bench. Some times quick affirmitive action is what is needed. Good luck and keep us posted.
Hi and welcome !
Please pop back and let us know how you got on today ..
good for you for taking your own life in your hands and doing something about it .. ignore the doomers and gloomers , this is about you , not the. . This is your path and you walk it , not them
Xxxx
Welcome, I love the way you've taken the bull by the horns, I hope all went well today and your not feeling too groggy, please check back in when you feel up to it and keep us up with your progress, I'm certain it's not a decision you will regret and like you my health is a big reason I'm on this journey X
Hi, thank you for the welcome everyone, op went really well, back in my room just after 10.30 pm the hospital staff have all been fantastic.
Feel like I've been kicked by a horse, but onwards and upwards! Had a nice long shower and a wander round the hospital this morning. I'm not impressed with the liquid paracetamol though it's so sickly, but if that's all I've got to moan about things can't be that bad !!!
Can't wait to get home and start the next chapter.
I'm sure I shall be asking you all lots of questions over the next few weeks! Xx
Welcome and glad it went well! Take things easy and allow your body to heal, it doesn't look like much from the outside but there is a huge amount of healing going on internally. All the best and keep us updated on how you are getting on.
Home today, I think the first thing I'll do is have a long sleep!
Hannah2 you are right, I think I was feeling pretty invincible yesterday morning, but am feeling rather fragile now, I do hurt and am very tired, I need to listen to my body not my head! I'm sure a lot of people go through the same thing?
Take it easy and do exactly as your team advices .. even if you feel ok and think you can do more than you should , refrain from it as you could do damage .. so take time out .
Xxx

Hi there. How are you feeling and how are you coping with the post-surgery diet? You sound very positive about the op etc and it must be great to be back home and be able to rest up and just spend time recovering. let us know how you are.
Hi,
I can't believe how much I've slept since coming home, the lack of energy has really surprised me, but I honestly can't be bothered to think about it. Yesterday i managed 500mls water, 200mls milk, 4 teaspoons clear soup and 2 teaspoons watered down fromage frais. Is this enough/ to much? Just feeling a bit lost and flat today. My surgeon did say everyone has a what have I done to myself day, maybe today is my turn! xx
Your still very early stages Hun .. anaesthetic takes a long time to fully disappear and can leave you feeling lathargic ..
your body is healing and going through a massive change physically and mentally .. mentally I akin this to a mourning period . Mourning for our old lives and missing the comfort foods that bought us joy and double misery ..
Don't worry about the food side as of yet .. if you can get some protein powder and full fat Greek yogurt down you then you will feel a little better ..
Rest and walk ..
xxxx
Hi all, managing more liquid now, my head keeps telling me I want food but my body isn't interested and I've gone of anything slightly sweet (let's hope it stays that way!). Went back to work this week and it's been so so hard, I've never felt tiredness like it, I think I've forgotten what energy is!
I've been feeling dizzy at times, do you think it's to soon after my op to get my blood pressure checked as I take 5 tablets a day for high blood pressure.
Hope everyone's doing ok xxx
It's worth asking. I started having symptoms of low blood pressure quite soon after my op although they're still very wary about reducing my meds I'm only on one lot. Good luck x
Doctors on Monday to check bp, and pre op next week for knee operation, Don't know if I can face it yet! Hopefully it's to soon to have another op. Lost 3 lb this week and daughter said is that all! I know it's not an awful lot but I was still pleased and I'm not feeling as tired now which is good.

Well done. You are getting over the op, gone back to work and lost weight. Every 1 lb lost has gone forever and they advise a steady weight loss is better than a rapid one. Did you watch the programme on BBC 2 Obesity: Is the NHS prejudice? In it a research doctor specialising in obesity said some interesting facts about the way our taste buds change following a bypass due to the changes in the gut. Effectively the messages change and work differently on your taste bud receptors changing your tastes and desire for foods. If you get a chance to, see if you can catch it on i-player. its worth watching.
Thank you, both of you. Yes I did watch the programme, very interesting. I now can't stand anything slightly sweet (no added sugar jelly, yoghurt etc), lets hope it continues for a long time!
