Hi I'm starting my fifth week this week end will I be able to have crackers and low fat spread I'm really fancy them .

I was told by my team to try the next stage a wee bit sooner. If you can tolerate it then it should be fine, if not keep on the stage you were on until you are ready. Just remember, chew, chew, chew, slow, slow, slow! lol

Sorry I have just seen you are a bander which means my info may not be relevant!

If they are in your diet plan yes. Crackers are good band friendly foods because of the texture :)

i was on solids alot quicker with my band but that was what i was advised, and crackers can be great with band but i could not eat cream crackers they always got stuck so had crispbread and ritz type crackers instead

Are crackers and low fat spread the best choice nutritionally? I don't see any protein content there? I understand they might be something you want to eat, just not sure they are something you should. I'm sure other banders will give you the best advice

most banders arent told anything about protien tho i know ni 4 years iv never had bander mention it and def never any of the dieticians iv seen ,il be interested once iv had bypass just how different the eating is and the types of food

Banders definitely need our protein too, about a third to half of our plate should protein...Followed by veggies then carbs. But the band works best with textured foods ... Which is why crackers/crispbreads are one of the best carbs to eat.

Protein is our friend because it makes us feel fuller longer and our bodies metabolise it well and it's less likely to be stored as fat than carbs or fats. It's also important to take in lots of protein just after our surgery because it helps us heal quickly. Not as important to banders or even sleevers as it is bypass patients post going forward, but it should still take up at least fifty percent of all our intake I reckon. More if you train heavily and especially if you're doing resistance training as its the protein that repairs our bodies after exercise.

Just be aware that the atkins bars lie - they are not as low in carbs as they imply. Also you really should be trying to get your protein as much as possible from meals first.

This isn't the case a lot certainly ARE told about protein content and its something that has been posted a fair Amount on these boards and there are various providers which do give protein guidelines.

clarared quark is good on revitalise or crackers, low fat but protein too, but depending on your tolerance of foods if you fancy a snack head for chicken breast, ham, prawns, filling but great protein sources. Tuna is also good and filling, put it on crackers too :)

Thanks today had a bit of plaice with two new potatoes and carrots so got a bit of protein and carbs xx

Hi clarered, seems you are getting on quite well with your band. Firstly though I have it yet done my surgery but from what I have read. Crackers are good as they are crunchy and can easily send signal to your brain about changes with your stomach. Hope that helps as well.
So how was your experience with Dr super, as I will be having my surgery on the 10th of June. Any tips?

Hi mr super was great had no problems he came to see me before I went down and explained everything also said if I wanted to go home same day I could. Went down at two in afternoon and was going home at nine . I'm looking forward to my first fill on Monday as my appetite seems to be back to normal at min got no restriction at all . Good luck and let us know how u get on.
