Loving Being a Loser
Hi
I've been trying to contact the bariatric nurse since yesterday to run a few things by her but without success, So can i ask you lovely people. Firstly for the 1st time since op, over the last two days i am experiencing hunger. I was told that for the 1st two weeks being liquid only it's impossible to overeat so i don't know if i'm slurping enough. I'm so terrified at the thought of "dumping" that i think i am probably stopping eating things like yogharts and soups maybe before i should and at times i still feel hungry. I have'nt got into the way of realising i'm full. I know you feel it in your chest or throat does it feel like a "sore throat" say as if your glands are swollen. Today i have eaten a 200g muller light yoghart, 1 weight watchers youghart, 2 seperate cups (tea cup size) of thin soup and a choc twister lolly. Drinking some home made thin fruit smoothie and sipping on water and really light ribena would appreciate your thoughts /comments
Thanks X

Hi hun;)I didn't experience true hunger that early, but had loads of "head hunger":DI filled up on NAS custard n angel delight as well as protein drinks. Are you having enough protein?

That's difficult isn't it, as you have to sort out whats head hunger versus actual physical hunger.
I wouln't worry too much till you're completely over the effects of the op.
:)

Prob not Candie finding it quite hard with the liquid only, trying to use milk a much as pos. Bought some protein powder today so maybe will give that a go although nurse said i did'nt need it in the 1st two weeks?. Read so much and listened to so much info buti guess it's just about getting used to what my body is now telling me. Head hunger comes and goes but i've been feeling as if i could eat more but so frightened of "overeating" x

Perhaps try a glass of water then wait 10 minutes or so, and if the hungry feeling returns you know it's genuine and have a nice protein shake or soup or something? I think protein rich helps you feel satisfied longer as well and helps stop cravings, as well as the obvious nutritional benefits.
Good luck anyway, it's such early days I don't think you can overdo it plus your body has just been through a huge change so it's got to heal properly as well. Well thats my take on it,probably someone much more knowledgeable will put your mind at ease soon x

Hiya
I didnt get "hungry" just had a lot of "head hunger" when I was on the fluids. You know, its a bit like mmmmmmm what can I have to eat and I just wanted to eat something rather than slurp!

I am now over 4 months post op and still dont feel "propper hungry" at all but what I thought was hunger was head hunger.

Can you find that you can eat a yoghurt in one sitting? Dont worry, this is normal. With me, I knew when I had enough as i got this funny uncomfortable feeling not in my throat like you described but at the bottom of my ribcage at the front. Not sure if everyone else has this as we are all totally different!

Its hard to "over eat" as you will find if you do, you will get the uncomfortable feeling or some people are sick. I personally have not been sick by eating too much so far but I dare say there will be a first time ;)

Just relax, try and get some protien in, did they give you fortimel drinks from the hospital to have? You know its sometimes called "witches brew" LOL but i find that im having to have at least one a day to help with my protein levels.
Yoghurt is good and plenty of fluids in between, keep sipping loads! Sometimes "thirst" can be mistaken in the early days for "hunger" ;)

Hope this helps you a bit!

Keep up the fluids and the good work your doing great :)

Its headhunger - when I was on liquids, I was working out how to liquidise pizza LOL! Keep your fluid intake up - drink lots of water (well as much as you can anyway) inbetween your soups and shakes and smoothies.
