Starting up Exercise post op

novamay

Born Free
Had my surgery on 18th Feb, so still very early days - have been walking around, pottering, and going to shops which is enough at the moment, but I'd love to go swimming again as soon as I can (the tightwad part of me begrudges that I'm losing out as I pay a monthly membership to swim; the lazy-B part of me says 'mehh' ).

My wounds are all nearly healed on the outside but obviously I dont want to overstretch the insides...

How long should I wait? How long have others waited?

Nova may my doctor recommended 4 weeks. I went then but took it easy and just relaxed and stretched my body out, it felt great. Back swimming as normal (actually better now as nearly 3 stone lighter) nearly 6 weeks post op. let your body guide you.

I waited 4 weeks as well. And took it nice and slow breast stroke only with rests inbetween lengths and only States in water 30 mins.

thanks guys, I'll give it another couple of weeks then as I still have some scabbing on one of my wounds.

I was told 6 weeks and in fat was told this morning at my 6 month check (after they looked at my healed wounds) that I could start up again.

How have you been since the op? I like to swim too so I'm glad I know it's 4 weeks post pool to restart. Xx

Your energy levels do suddenly snap during these early weeks post op, so I would advise not going near water. There's plenty of cycle paths around, I usually walk along those and see where it takes me. Steady walking and build it up gradually.
