Hi guys,

This is probably a stupid question but I wanted to ask if anyone else still felt pain 25 days out of surgery?

I am really sore on my left side just under my bust and wanted to ask if this is normal or could I have pulled something?

I am dying to go swimming and get back in the gym but I'm a bit scared to incase I make this pain worse!!

I feel fine in myself and I am really pleased with my weight loss so far and went back to work this week too so I am really keen to get to the bottom of this.

Hi

I had a band fitted 5 weeks ago and was advised not to do any exercise involving my stomach until 6 weeks post op. At first I thought this was a bit extreme but it is standard after abdominal surgery.

I have noticed that if I physically do too much (walking, housework etc) then I do feel discomfort.

Give it time and ease your self back into your exercise regime. I went swimming today with my daughter so didnt swim too much myself but it was lovely to be in the pool. Going to the gym tomorrow just to walk on the treadmill in the airconditioned coolness, rather than out in the scorching heat!

Hiya

I was a day after you for my op and i am still having pain on my right side, but that is the deepest scar also it isnt fully healed yet,my OH wont let me lift anything heavy and too be honest i wouldnt try just yet anyway.

It may be a idea to call your consultant on monday regarding the pain and advice on exercising too be on the safe side.

Many people feel a 'pulling' type pain on the lower left scar for 4-8 weeks post-op. It is the place where the most instruments go in. Also, it tends to stay numb for a couple of weeks but as it heals, it 'wakes up' nerve endings there and will sometimes be painful. It should be easily be managed by some type of pain relief meds, whatever your doc has said you can use. If the pain is too intense or keeping you from moving around, you should check with you team just incase.

Remember, when in doubt give a shout, to your GP/Surgeon/Specialist Nurse. That is what they are there for.

HTH,

Well guys I have an answer...........

I went to see one of the surgeons at the hospital today to get to the bottom of why I was having this pain on the left side of my stomach and he said that when they did my op, when they were removing one of the ports the muscle started to bleed. Aparently this is quite common and is nothing to worry about and they put a large suture in it to stop the bleeding. He said that I have pulled the muscle with the suture in and that is why I have been in so much pain. He checked me for a hernia and said I was fine, told me it could take a few weeks or even a few months to fully heal and that I am to rest properly and take pain relief 4 times a day and it will sort itself out in time.

I was sooooooooo relieved that it wasn't serious!!

Thank you for all your replies and advice.
