Straws

I get the no fizzy drinks and no chewing gum with a band, but one thing I can't fathom is the no drinking through straw thing. Can anyone enlighten me? At the hospital after water the first thing I was given was a carton of smoothie to be drunk through a straw!

I was told its because you take in lots of air when using a straw x

I have read the same its the intake I guess when you first come round its the least messy option for them to give you a drink through a straw until you are able to sit up and manage on your own

And you can't gulp loads of fluids down in 1 go and cause you pain and discomfort as well xx

I always drink through a straw , albeit very slowly & its never been an issue x
