Hi all. I'm into my second week on liquids and if I'm honest I'm slipping. Find myself eating little bits of soft, and some times normal food. Feel hungry quite a lot. Im so, so disappointed in myself. Don't know what to do, I've gutted. Has anyone else had similar problems? x

hi danni sorry to hear your not having a good time at the mo cant advise as ive not had mine done but didnt want to read and run sending big hugs x

Im pre op love, but someone will be along soon to help you out. Are you post op, if so how much longer before you can go on the pureed stage? xxx

Hi Danni,

from what ive read about the band, its not up to its full potential just yet ;) The first few weeks its down to you and your will power to get you through until you have your first fill, which should then help!

Dont feel disappointed, youve just started your journey. We're all here because we cant resist food

Is there a dietician you can contact through your provider?

Im not sure how long you need to stay on liquids for but i think you'll be able to move onto mushy food soon.

Goodluck x

The thing is, the diet is not just to piss you off, it's there to save your life. It's for safety!

I'm just back from a meeting last week where I learned that one person had eaten normal food not long after surgery, ripped her staple line and had been in intensive care for the last 3 weeks.

You've been given an operation to improve, in some cases save, your life. Don't damage yourself this soon on.

Sorry to be blunt but it's something I need to say.

Hello there

You should really follow the guidelines from your provider and as fellow bander it is there for firstly and foremost for your safety and to ensure you heal properly.

I would really advise against moving onto the next stage as yet because you may be doing more harm then good. ( unless ur provider states so) with regards too feeling hungry etc that is quite normal at this stage because ur swelling from the initial op would have started to go down and without any band fills there is no restriction, as another poster stated that this is where the real hard work comes into it, if your feeling hungrier dont move onto next stage without talking to ur provider, eat /drink more clear liquids/soups too fill u up and drink more water as well.......

I have been at this stage myself and the band is only a tool and you have too work with it, how ever I do know how fustrating it is to feel hungry at this stage.......I cannot emphasise the golden rule.............Follow ur providers guidelines they are there for a reason. All the best - MeJulie xxx

Danni the transition from liquids to solid foods is there to protect your new pouch. I know its different with the band but still you need to take care if you are not to hurt yourself

Its not easy but you should ask yourself why you had this procedure and what you want to achieve with it. Use your dreams of the new you to give you the strength to make this work

Good luck

Thanks all for your messages. I'm post-op, and can on to 'softs' on Wednesday. My dietitian is ringing on thursday so I will talk to her about it, but I'm going to try get my act together from today, especially after what you said Mixman, I didn't realize it could be so dangerous. I just hope I've not done any damage as yet.

You don't have a staple line Danni only bypassers have those so worry not you'll be fine. Just take it easy and follow your dietitians instructions from now on

Thinking of you Danni and hoping you are feeling very much better very soon... sending love and hugs to you xxx

Sorry to hear you'r struggling Danni. You've had some great advice though. TBH, how much of this is 'head-hunger'?
Because a liquid diet can fill and satisfy. I know I felt full on my pre-op milk diet for instance. BUT I WANTED to eat and to CHEW!
If you're going to use your new band to its fullest potential and reap the greatest rewards, you're going to need to get your head right. I know it's hard. The first couple of months (well its that long for a bypass) are tough, working through the diet stages.

But this is the best time to begin to train yourself into some new and healthy habits.
Best wishes. We're here to help and encourage you all the way.
Love n hugs
