Hi all,

Does anyone knows how long is the actual waiting list for surgery - not for appointments - at St Richards once u are placed on it by the doctor??

And, what about procedures - once u r placed on waiting list and until surgery date, what happens??

Thanks all

Hi rhj
As far as I am aware, the waiting lists at St Richards are closed till they clear the backlog of referrals. In my case, the timescales went like this:
Referral by Dr - July 2008
1st appt with consultant - April 2009
Appts with dietician, anethatist and psychologist - between June and July 2009
Put on OFFICIAL waiting list for surgery - Sept 15 2009
GUARANTEED operation - by end of March 2010
Still waiting for pre-op assessment and operation date
So all in all, it will be 20 months since initial referral from doctor.
If you've only just been referred..........be prepared for a very long wait!
All the best
Julie

Hi Julie(s)

Benn referred in March/April 09, saw Mr Sommers twice already and placed on official waiting list for surgery 28th September 2009. Received some papers to fill in, including a 5 day diary on my diet which finished today. will post papers back on monday.

Trying to find out what happens now, in this waiting period.

Who's doing/did ur surgery? for the julie who's just done, any clues you would like to give me and other julie??

Tks

My reply isnt going to be helpful at all but, I don't think that there is a strict guideline of how long you wait, who you see, when you see them etc. Everyone on here will have had a different story about the time they waited from initial appointment etc.

My referral went straight from my doctor to St Richards in January 2009, my first appt with the consultants was April 17th. In May 16th was my appt with the dietician, June 26th I saw the psych and then I got put on the 'waiting list for surgery' beginning of July. My surgery is scheduled for 27th November my pre op is 13th November (this coming friday).

some people on here seem to have waited longer for an initial appointment ( I think that depends on your PCT) and if they have all your forms in place.

Also, maybe, it might depend on your health needs.

If you start to feel that there might be a 20 week or 18 week or whatever week goal in your mind you might well be disappointed so best maybe to go with the flow and just not get any dates or goals in your mind. I know this is easy for me to say because I'm almost 'there' but believe me, its not, I was frustrated through being misled by 'dates' and 'timescales' given to me as much as some have been on here.

Each case is individual and different.

Sit back, relax and just go with the flow is the best advice I would give.

Regards

That is really good Julie, best of lucks for you. Do let us know how it goes with pre op, it is always good to have some insights; as you said you do tend to get desperate in the waiting process. I've been finding loads of comfort in reading plp stories here and learning a lot about how it all goes.

Keep in touch
