Take-aways and eating out

I was just wondering if anyone eats take-away any more- And if so, what do you eat?
And also, when you go out, what things does everyone choose?

(Can you tell I'm still on fluids and fantasising about the future!!:D)

take aways aint really a good option as there usually high fat ect, when going out when i was a bander i usually chose a meat and veg meal, or a starter when the others ordered a main x

Hi I still have take aways but not very often
If I am having chinese I always have chicken chow mein (twice since my bypass)
I have a junior whopper if I have burgerking. (again twice since my bypass)
I have had just fish from the chippy and left the batter (can't do chips anymore) only done that once
and can only manage 1 slice of pizza

So you can still have take away just not eat as much as before. And you might find you don't like the taste or smell as you did before

eating out is quite limited. i went out last week to a restaurant with my 2 nieces, ordered chicken goujons and mash potato, i couldnt eat it! it was a bit embarassing as my nieces dont know of my op and i had to run to the bathroom twice (pretendn i had a tummy upset). stay safe and stick to foods that are easily digested. beef is a NO NO. its so hard to get steak down. you will get used to eating cold food. when i am eating, i have to eat slowly, to make sure i am swallowing chewed up, small amounts, so it does take time and of course the dinner gets cold. good luck with ur recovery.. xx

Yes I still have takeaways but I can only manage half of a main dish so dont get carried away and order too much!

I probably have one every couple of months and as a non meat eater pick a king prawn dish with no rice or noodles and as dry as poss.

Eating out I go for a salad with fish and no rice or pasta.

If you feel anxious about eating out make sure you take this very slow x

I have not had takeaways post op - my choice. I have eaten out only once and had a soup type dish with chicken and prawns and managed about a quarter of it so I am avoiding eating out - my band seems to develop super restriction in those situations - probably because I feel anxious. I am meeting an old friend for lunch tomorrow and I have told him I have a bug so will not be eating but will have a coffee while he has lunch. He has just text me back and said we can just have coffee - bless him.

tranquil x

sorry hadn't realised that you had had a band

Since I had wls if I go out for meals ( which is very rare) I tend have a starter as a main meal ( like prawn cocktail, or chicken skewers with salad etc) and if they didn't accommodate I wouldn't eat there no more - Simples LoL.

As far as takeaways the options for me are some what limited in places as I cannot tolerate rice, pasta, noodles, bread of any kind, but on the occasions if I have an Indian I have chicken tikka starter with salad, but tbh I cook all my Indian and Chinese meals etc at home from scratch and freeze them so I know exactly what goes in to them and know what I am eating without worrying about too much sugar, fat, oils, and gawd knows wot else is in the meals., I do a batch of 100 in a day(20 Indian, 20 Chinese, 20 Chilli Con Carne, 20 Shepherds Pie & 20 spag bol mix) and freeze them xxx HTH Julie xx

In a DAY!

You've really got to go into business. I no I'd order from you.

Julie

I usually have a chicken or salmon salad if eating out, but for takeaways we have a munchie box between the three of us (this is a pizza box that contains things such as: chicken tikka, chicken pakora, chicken gougons, kebab meat, pitta bread, chips, salad and sauces). That way I can have the chicken and salad and have a wee nibble at the kebab meat. xx

This all sounds very heartening and has cheered me up no end!
BlueDiamond- that level of cooking is impressive. I shall store that in the memory banks for when I'm eating food again.

I went out for my first meal this week. How sad am I, I downloaded the menu that day so I could be prepared and have chosen what to eat before I got there. I chose camembert to start with which was ok. They had no salmon so I had to pick chicken and honestly I ate about a quarter of it, it went down soooo slowly. I was just worried in case anything horrible happened in front of people, so to be honest it was not as an enjoyable experience as before the band, but that's the price of being a bander. I still had fun x

It seems like its a matter of choosing the right stuff. I actually don't mind going out and just getting a starter- a lot of my skinny friends used to do this anyway while I gorged on my favourite foods...always to excess. And they all know anyway.
I'm not sure how my life will be yet...I used to go out eating and drinking a fair bit. I'm going to have to adapt!...but happy to do so. :)
