Thought I'd feel fuller?

BIG KIM

I am a *NEW* Man!
I am approaching the end of week 2 of my fluid diet. thing is, when I eat my food, I always feel like I could eat more, I thought that my pouch would fill up quicker, and I should be feeling full, is this normal??

When I was this early post op, I was full after a drink or a small ramekin of angel delight or no sugar custard, so not sure :confused:

Hi i am still pre op but i am sure i have read a few posts similar to urs and what people were saying is that this is normal whilst u r still on fluids and it will change when u start to eat more solid food.
Am sure others will be along soon to offer u some advice, take care x

This is pretty normal at this stage, some people get restriction on fluids at stage one and others dont, dont worry to much about it, at your stage your looking to let things heal up after the op, and progress to sloppies. When you start re introducing harder foods you will find that you'll be able to eat a lot less ;)

Roch is right. I found a huge inconsistency in what i consumed newly post op. Some days I would drink a little and feel full and then others alot would go down no worries at all and i would feel like i could have more....

Be patient with it and dont panic. As you progress through your stages you will learn to listen to what your pouch is telling you and how to respond to it

Sound advice, cheers Mark. :)

i agree with mark as you know the other day i had 1000 calories and was fine :-0 otherdays i dont wana eat at all.. chin up babe xx

yep, I agree with what has already been said. On fluids I felt no restriction at all once the initial swelling had gone down. Kind of makes sense really as fluids will leave the pouch pretty much as quickly as they enter.

Once you move to solids you will feel full quickly, but like the others, I have good and bad days. Some days I hardly manage anything, whilst on other days (esp around totm) i could eat anything and everything.

Your doing fab kim x

fluids leave ur pouch really fast when ur on solids u will feel ur pouch telling u when to stop and u must listen xx

some of the hunger could also be head hunger so as others have said try and listen to your pouch not your head x
I wouldnt say that I am still hungry, it's just that I feel I could manage more. :)

Ok, had a bit of a mental block early and thought you where on sloppies already. This is quite common on fluids and on purees. When the swelling dies down you will be able to fit more in your pouch. I was amazed when I was at this stage just how much I could eat. The firmer your food gets then the less you will be able to eat. I went from being able to eat several spoons of mash and gravy to eating less than a desert spoon of solid food. If you feel like you could eat more have a little bit more until you feel full. This is a tricky stage but if you listen to your pouch you will be fine x x

Thanks, good advice. ;)

You will find you can eat loads of liquid, a bit less when sloppy, bit less again when mashed and then the good restriction and really small meals when you get onto fish and meat ect.

Dont worry it is quite normal how you are at present.

Thanks to all for the advice. :)

Thank you so much for started this thread and asking this question. It has been a week today since my surgery and for the past two days I have been feeling like I could drink/eat more soup and protein drink and I was worried that mt stomach wasnt small enough. Thanks to the replies on here I now know that it is normal. Like you I dont actually need more but felt I could easily have more.

Good luck with your sloppy stage.

Did you have your staples/stiches out yet?

No, as far as I am aware, my stitches are disolvable.
