Tiredness

Nurse Julie

New Member
I am 3 weeks post bypass op. Things are going well but I am finding that I am terribly tired all the time, on occasions I have had to stop the task I am doing (this may only be washing up) and sit down for a while.
Anyone else felt like this?

Entirely normal. Your body is still recovering from surgery and you are not taking in much food/energy at the moment. Take it easy. Nap if you can. Get lots of sleep and listen to your body. Don't try to be superwoman ;-)

I am 8 months out and although I am of course fully recovered I still need more sleep than I ever did before. About an hour more each night since before surgery.

J, Blueyes got it spot on. I can only hang half a load of washing out then I need to stop for 5 minutes. Things will improve when you're 100% recovered. Remember that even if you feel ok on the outside, there is a lot more healing to be done inside. You'll be bursting with energy when your food intake increases.

Thanks for your replies.
It's good to know that you are not alone and others are or have experienced the same thing and can help to reassure you (I now feel totally reassured btw!)
I think I am expecting too much too soon - I don't think I did myself any favours by going back to work a week after my op either!! :wave_cry:

I slept for the first 3 months!Every afternoon I had a few hours kip. From past experience that is the best way to heal.I have been bursting with energy for the last 3 months! If I could bottle it I would be rich!

I also slept loads for the first few months post-op as the others have said, it is natures way of helping us heal. Hope you feel more awake soon Julie. x

I'm nearly 8wks post op & despite insomnia pre-op I could nap easily after work and for the last 2mths it has continued I've tried to resist as it makes sleep more difficult at night but have rested as much as I can. The shock will be going back to work the week after next my sick note ran into the start of the school holidays so I will have had 9wks off in all so as well as the usual back to work tiredness after the summer break I will have the post-op return fatigue as well so hope my timetable isn't to full on or I can negotiate a gentle return which will be a challenge as I teach as well as support low ability kids in Maths. Oh well best make the most of time to plan and have my list of what I need to photocopy as evidence for the kids portfolios so I can get the reproduction office techs to do that for me. I'll need to break the habit of a lifetime and ask for help rather than trying to do it all myself at home and work.
