Hiya banders! I am soooo puzzled with my little old band! I'm after some other views please...
I have 6.75ml in a 10ml band...I can't eat things like chips, bread and beef and pastA - which is all good but...
Yesterday i had a road trip to the dogs in sheffield and stayed over. I never had anything in the morning but i was starving when we got there at 2 and was a little naughty and had 2 mini fillet strips from KFC as the hubbyhad a big fat meal! they went down eventually but took some doing. I then went to the Pub!!!! I had 4 halves of cider which were fine and yummy! At the dogs we had free drinks - I went on to have 4 Pints of lager!!! We also had free food which was a hotdog n chips! As i was slightly merry By this time and had no care in the world i managed to eat the sausage and the chips AND half the bread - no problem no hassle no nothing! BUT this morning i went for breaky and struggled with my weetabix - they did go down but took some doing!
What i'm after is to know if there are times when the band acts differently - does the band become looser at certain stages in the day like?
Today I had my weetabix but nothing else until tea - i have just tried bacon and toasted pitta bread and again had no problem! I cant decide if i need another fill on wed or is it actually too tight as i dont think weetabix should be any kind of challenge?!
Totally bamboozled by this one and dont know what to think!
And i must say i soooo miss eating a real mouthful of food lol!!!!
I am still loving my journey - its a slow long journey but will be worth it!!!!

Hiya Bec.....fizzy (cider/lager) should be a nono for us...sounds to me like you've put your band under strain and so today the area around it is swollen...might take a day or two now to settle down x

Meant to also say mines more restricted in a morning..gone from breakfast being a must to take it or leave it now..

I agree with Jo. I find the band can react to mood. If I am stressed it is as tight as hell. If relaxed things go down easier. I have said on posts it seems to have a way of letting crap slide through all too easily:D

If you were a little tipsy then that may account for the volume and type of food you were able to get down. Just be aware of that for the future. If you do what you did on a regular basis then you will not only not lose weight but you could risk band slippage amongst other things. It is just not worth risking.

Like Jo I cannot eat anything solid in the mornings - so I am just sticking to liquids - I am back to protein shakes if I can face them.

Thanks Jo! I did wonder that - i thought that fizzy was a no no because of the wind it can give u - I think i have been lucky in that way i Have had no trouble with it since i had the band in.
I try and have porridge for breakfast to fill me up.
Im also not feeling full which i thought i would by now! I sometimes think i can have same as i used to eat if i took my tme - i havent given into this yet and dont think i will. I will see how i go and decide on tues about my fill. I do think though that i will give it a miss this time. I think im trying to rush it now a little so im gonna take a step back!

Just be careful as its more than wind...it can cause the band to slip n then you'll need corrective surgery...I've had a couple of sips but I daren't risk even half a lager now as don't want to destroy my beloved band!!!

I've cancelled my fill for wed..sufficient restriction this month so will leave it until march! X

Hiya - thanks for your input - It was defo a one off lol! I have to let my hair down ervey now and then - maybe i will try a different way of doing it next time lol.
The mood thing makes sense - I was very stressed yest afternoon when i had the chicken and mardy as i was hungry!!! maybe if i had taken more time and not been in that mood i would have focused more on the eating!
:( next time i go out i will defo avoid food! beer goggles and food do not mix!
xx

Believe it or not it does just the opposite. One of the biggest struggles I have is the combination of the right restriction and then my band tightening too much and restricting what is going in due to stress. My body keeps thinking I am in starvation and it is causing havoc. I have discussed this at length with my consultant which is why he is considering something else. Personally as I have said I do not want to go down that road.

Sorry for hijacking your post bex.

Avoid the beer rather than the food, although your food choices weren't amazing either. Beer is empty calories AND fizzy; a combination that could adversely affect your weightloss. Besides the risks already mentioned such as band slippage, the fizz can stretch your pouch.

My band always used to be tighter in the mornings, I could only ever manage 4 mini weetabix about an hour after being up. I also found that with a good glug of fluid you could pretty much get a normal meal down the band as long as you chewed well - be careful as it's a slippery road once you start finding stuff you can manage in large amounts. Are you sure you weren't just so P**** that someone else ate your's ?! xxx

Hahaha to Oonion!!

I've only had restriction since last Saturday but already found that one day I had a few teaspooons of scrambled egg and beans and got massive restriction pain so couldn't eat anymore. A few days later I ate the lot, no problem.
Yesterday I had the insides of a jacket potato with tuna and sweetcorn and ate the lot. Today I had the same and it took me 3 sittings to eat it!
I can find no rhyme nor reason, so good luck!! Hehe xx

I have a theory- if you can burp, the band is probably too loose! I can drink fizzy stuff- beer, champagne coke and its easy to burp the gas up. But if you have good restriction, its really hard to burp so you get bloated and that can cause band-slippage... hence all the advice about not taking carbonated drinks. I have enough restriction to not feel hungry a lot, but its not really really tight yet. I think I'll probably be getting a fill at my next appt in March!

If that was the only reason then bypassers and sleevies would be able to have fizzy drinks.

Aww thank you everyone! i wish someone else had eaten it....I was back in the hotel at 11pm - bladdered!!!! hahahaha! The band has certainly changed what i can drink!
I am taking this week as a new start - although it didnt get off to one after having weetabix this morning - think i ate them too quick as i was late! bad move!
I am now looking forwrd to lunch which will be the inside of a jackpot and beans!
I am a little dissapointed that im not feeling full. Sophie i am the same as you at the min - I had a potato the other day and ate it at a normal pace but the day after it took me 45 mins! Its a crazy tool!
Im off to liverpool next weekend for a night out.....Vodka and fresh orange all the way - bit of a recipe for disaster knowing my luck i will me drunk and in bed for 9pm this time lol!!!! After that i have banned myself from drinking until the middle of March to try and give this weight loss a boost!
Thanks for your advice it really does help!
xx

I can't really comment on the reasons for bypassers not having gassy drinks except to say that you don't have much space which could cause overdistension of your pouch I guess. But banders have different issues...the gas sort of gets caught below the restriction if its really tight which can cause bloating. I'm not really restricted very much so its not such a big problem although I have enough restriction to reduce the hunger pangs to help me eat less. Hope this helps explain my thoughts a bit. :)

Glad you are back on track and we can let our hair down every now and then. I don't think you can compare between different surgery. That's why we all have different surgeries and different needs. For banders our inside of not been touch only a band around it and if not that tight our stomach can still expand to fit a burp for example. So like Mrs pill theory, as I have experienced the same. Anyway I am so happy there are more banders in the bander section comparing notes and sharing their journey good and bad. Have a good day everyone xxx

I too find I can't eat on a morning.. takes me all my time to get a drink in first thing..I was stressed this morning and basically nothing went.down and stayed down till lunch time.. I don't touch carbonated drinks.. totally a no no for me.. add some ice to take out the fizz. Too much fizz can cause the band to slip and I want to look after mine. I love my band and I've invested a lot of money into it, so don't want to ruin it. Good luck everyone x
