Get everything done, even your Christmas shopping. It's as much uncomfortable as painful afterwards. It's a big operation. But well worth it when the first couple of months have passed. Even lifting a kettle will be monumental.
I didn't think about the Christmas shopping bit but when I think how long till my op and recovery time then how long till Xmas. I think I will start now and do it online too.
Get some spanx or similar from primark. I'm seven weeks out and have been told to wear them for another four weeks. A v shaped pillow was another life savrr for me. Good luck x
I got two corset style binders from the hospital, one to wear and one to wash every day. I had them for a couple if weeks then moved to Bridget Jones knickers from M&S. They really push on your bladder . They were on 24 hours a day for another 4-5 weeks then for 5 hours in the middle of the day, then finally with a HUGE sigh of relief OFF.
I slept with a memory foam pillow under my knees for many weeks, until one night I felt I could move it to one side. It was so uncomfortable, and just a distant memory being blanked out now LOL.
I had the ultra-sexy DVT socks on for five weeks as well, again one to wear and one to wash every day.
My other half had to bathe me kneeling in the bath every day (think prize pig in a bath going to country show), then put the socks on me and for the first two weeks putting the binder on was a two-man job.
Thanks for the advice guys any more is welcome. I have so many questions.
1) any suggestions on what to wear after surgery.
2) is it worth getting anything to put on the scar to help it fade/ be less noticeable as I am having a fleur de Lis so will have a vertical scar as well.
Bring something really loose to go home in. I was a couple of sizes bigger for a week. I wore a nightie as well, I didn't want anything near my scar, knickers were on, on the third day, again small ones that didn't go near my scar.
After about 4 weeks (ish) I had to rub cream into my scar until it makes your eyes water twice a day. Bio Oil was suggested but I am allergic to it. I now do it once a day, but am a bit lazy some weeks. My scar is good but not healed brilliantly as I've had malnutrition during my healing time.
It would maybe be an idea to review your vitamins and make sure you are taking them all with an extra vitamin C I was told. I can't take them so didn't.
