I was told that plastic surgery for excess skin was not available via NHS or could it be certain pct's have different criteria?
Hi kjb - its really the luck of the draw. No funding whatsoever for any type of procedure in Highland unless its reconstruction following an accident or cancer etc. It's incredibly frustrating to meet all the criteria and then be knocked back.
10 years ago I was badly burned in the stomach area, obviously have the scars left, the burns specialist said if ever I lost my weight & wanted him to excise the scared area he would,I was thinking if everything goes to plan about approaching him,but then I thought am I being vein or selfish, who apart from my wife will ever see my excess skin
Unfortunatly its a postcode lottery which is pretty sad . Leeds PCT criteria is for exceptional circumstances only following a BMI under 30 for 12 months plus a hanging pouch of skin lower then the pubis and health related conditions which i unfortunately fit for all. If it was for vanity reasons alone there would be no way id get it but due to the fact i get infections and very painful rashes it needs to come off . I feel very lucky to be accepted for this op and i know it will make a huge difference to my life. I have no confidence and the hanging stomach of an 80 year old woman....yet im only 28 x
