Turned down for private sleeve op!

Have been emailing a clinic in Czech to carry out gastric sleeve surgery and they have declined due to my medication and high bmi. Very disappointed to say the least.

Oh no Gladys. Keep trying other companies. Was it definitely abroad you were looking at?

Yes due to the price mainly. I was going to look into having surgery in Belgium because they do aftercare in UK. I am now worried that I won't be able to have it done and I guess I was taking it for granted that I would be OK if funding it myself.

I would suggest trying other companies in Czech or even Belgium. You never know, you might get lucky x

I am so sorry Gladys, I really do hope you are able to find someone with the experience to handle your case. May I ask what you BMI is and what medication you take.

I was speaking with my surgeon today, he said he carried out surgery on a patient just yesterday with a BMI of over 80. Perhaps he can assist you? He does private work and NHS.

Thanks a positive. My bmi is around 57 and I am on gabapentol, naproxen and tramadol all due to extreme pain in my lower back and leg. I am on amitriptyline as muscle relaxants, duloxetine as anti depressants. I also use a puffer in the morning and before bed as I apparently have asthma too. I was looking forward to being able to come off most of my medication once I had lost the weight.

Hi Debbie,

Please don't let this small hurdle get you down. Maybe NHS will be able to help? Keep all options open :) Sending cyber hugs your way as I type xxx

Thanks Banana. I will keep on researching. It may be that I will have to have it done here despite the cost. I won't give up yet it was just a bit disappointing to be told that and made me think that all surgeons would refuse me now.

Thanks for your kind words everyone. I will get there

Debbie

I don't think its your BMI and I'm clueless on the meds you take, I'm sure if you keep looking/researching you will find something, don't forget to look at UK too I haggled and got almost £2k off my op :)

I didn't know you could do that Butterfly. I think I may look into UK surgeons as well now.

Debbie

I went for a consultation, then left it for a few weeks they rung me up, I (fibbed) that I was looking to go abroad and I was thinking of dieting to get my bmi to under 50 so its would be cheaper again, they then phoned back and said if I had the op in 13 days they could do it for £10k not £11k, I said I would of loved to but I only had £9k (fibbed again) hence me looking abroad and they took the £9k :D

My husband normally does that with everything but I didn't even think about doing it with surgeons. Good thinking though!!
