:cry:Got my date - 17th January - Never had a general anesthetic before and really scared - should have had it on 22nd December but had, had a cold so was too nervous. What does the anesthetic feel like? Is there a lot of pain when you wake up. I know its better to have it for my health and do really want to go ahead with the op, but i'm afraid my nerves will get the better of me. Any advice greatfully received. xx

When you go to sleep you dont feel anything except slight tingling in your arm and by the time its registered you are out, its a lovely feeling actually....I had no pain when I woke and even asked if the surgery had been done as there was nothing. Did not need the morphine drip at all and they give you pain killers before they bring you round. There is nothing to worry about and you will be fine...xx

hello tee.... welcome ..... well first of all i worked for NHS for over 8 years nursing and i have had a few ops in my time for this and that ..

general anesthetic is a doddle you have nothing to worry about there you feel nothing when going under apart from like your floating on a cloud and then your fast asleep and wont rem a thing...

then when they bring your around its just like a daze you wont be any pain cause they have filled you with enough pain killers to knock a horse out ...

you will daze in and out of sleep for a fair few hours and wont quite know where you are for first few hrs and you wont care lol .. happy place to be trust me ...

you will go to recovery while they are bringing you around and depending on what kinda surgery you have had they will rather send you to ICU .. or to your room ward .... where you will then sleep the best part of the day away and will wake now and then for short periods of time ..

if ur having bypass you will prob have a little press button for your pain killers that will give your morphine or the likes .. you press when you feel any pain and it all goes away ..

so i would no worry if i was you just think of the out come and all the good things you will be fine ..

and good luck keep us posted on your results ;o)

Thanks so much for your quick reply. I really hope I find the courage to go ahead with it - I am such a wuss! Your comment is very much appreciated and i am sure i will be fine and wonder what it was i was worrying about. xx

i too have never had any major op and freak out when i have to have bloods taken. But i keep thinking about what I will be able to do when ive had the op and the pain i will be in can surely be no worse than the pains i get now as a result of my weight, what with my back my knees and my gall stones to name a few. You will be able to do this and the doubts are just a way of putting in to perspective and ironing out any issues we may have. I dont think youd be normally if you didnt have some sort of doubt before hand. Keep thinking positive and you will sail through.
