Vitamins and suppliments part 2!!

Ello everyone,

The thing about the B12 does seem to vary greatly doesnt it?

OK, so I set my stall out of vitamins and supps having started the purees yesterday. I was told to get 1) multivitamin. 2) folic acid and iron specifically a product called pregaday. 3) Zinc. 4) Calcium with vit D. Went to Boots and because thought it best at least for the first buy. Couldnt find the pregaday and also couldnt find a folic acid and iron compound so bought folic acid on its own and just got the multivits with added iron - tick I think. Then couldnt get zinc on its own so got zinc with vit c, sure thats fine. Got the calcium and vit D fine although there is added vit K in there too. Strange thing is apart from the calcium and Vit D, the mutivitamin has all the other stuff in it anyway, so now wondering if I'm taking double on some things?? Will call the nurse tomorrow and check it out. Worst thing was taking them. Knew immediately there was no way I could take all those at the same time from the size point of view coz some of them are like torpedos, but even taking 2 with a drink made me feel really uncomfy with a sort of a stabbing pain in my back and ribs!!!! Didn't like that one bit :(. Is is ok to space em out over the day?

xx

Its best to spread them out. Especially the calcium and iron, they should not be taken together.

Also with the iron, try and have something vitamin c about half an hour beforehand, like some fresh orange juice, as your body needs vitamin c to absorb iron.

Pregaday has to be bought over the counter in boots or ask your GP to prescribe it for you and get it cheaper buy prescription

How much is the pregaday??? I've been noticing a lot of you say to get the Doc to do them for you on prescription, but at £7 odd per item, its a dear do?!?!?

I have bought a 3 month pre pay certificate for scripts £27 and then get everything i have to have on script get my Dr to give extra to last. And dont forget if you get child tax credits scripts are free

Sounds like a good plan. I was told the Forceval would be enough (it has over 20 vits & mins in) but it depends on what foods you are eating (or can manage to tolerate).

Having had my bloods to check my levels a couple of weeks ago, I am low on Iron & Zinc (lack of meat as can't tolerate it).

So, as well as the Forceval, have got a multi-vitamin with iron & zinc in it, already taking the pregaday (as was planning on trying for a baby so folic acid - though this plan on hold now!! Don't ask!) All prescribed by doc as well as stronger course of Iron supplement for 3 months.

I was told at the hospital that, in our case, you really can't over-do the vitamins/minerals - but don't quote me on that!

i take bassetts soft and chewy everyday health multivitamins with blueberry and lycopene...they contain 100% rda for adults of vit a, d, e, b2, b5, pantothetic acid, b6, folic acid, b12, vit c and 1mg of lycopene. its just one a day and there is 30 in the box and they were £3.50 ish from superdrug. not taking iron or calcium yet as have been advised not to as my levels are ok at present.

Hi - has someone in the medical profession that specialises in baritric surgery advised you to take Bassets chewy multivitimins ? and do you know what the dosages contained within them are ?

You should have gone for the yearly one, £104 for a year which works out cheaper - my prescriptions for vitimins, anti acids and B12 would come in at £34 every two months - but i get them free now i have the NHS Certificate !

I would have done but dont get paid till 28th lol will get dr to treble the script lol

yes my surgeons bariatric nurse specialist says that any chewy or liquid multi vit is fine as long as it contains 100% rda of the recommended vitamins, which this does with the addition of folic acid too which is a bonus. i showed her mine and she said its good and is on her list of reccommended ones.
