There are so many of us now that are at various stages with our referral to Walsall that I am losing track.

So Walsall Peeps, add your name to this thread with details of what stage you are at, what hoops you have had to jump through so far and whether you are having bypass or band, and any other info that you think the rest of us might find useful...

so i'll start the ball rolling.

Im Sam, live in Sutton COldfield. Was referred by my GP on 18th December, still waiting for initial appointment with Walsall.

My starting BMI is 42 (approx 19 1/2 stones) and I am hoping for a bypass

Hello i am Rachael and i am from Bilston heehee, i am looking to have a gastric band i am 25 stone and 5 pounds and my BMI is high 40's :-/

I was referred by my doctor earlier this week.

Hi, new person on here! Lorna, Staffordshire (under North Staffordshire PCT). BMI 45-47, between 19st 2lbs and 19st 7lbs generally, although popped up to say hello to 20st during the summer. I was referred by GP in mid-August 2008, hospital didn't receive referral so sent again. Had appt with the bariatric team in mid-November, so 3 months. Met Dr Hartland, Mr Khan, Ana Elshaw the clinical nurse specialist, and Georgia the dietitian.

Had to make an appt with the psychologist, Dr Kendrick, which is in April. As I was concerned I would have to wait until after that to join the waiting list, I checked with Ana, who said that no, I would be on the list already and could see Dr Kendrick before or after surgery as my surgery wasn't dependent upon that appt.

Have this week contacted Ana again to see if there were any problems with funding, and she has advised that to their knowledge everything is fine. So now just waiting. Ana advised it would be about 5 months from when I saw her in November, normally 18 weeks but with Xmas to count it as 5 months.

helloooooooo I'm allie and I live in West brom/ Walsall. I weigh 21 stone and have a bmi of OMG
I'm waiting for my Gastric Bypass which fingers crossed will be taking place on the 22nd of February. I had my first appointment with Dr Hartland on the 21st of August, then had my funding given by Sandwell PCT. I had my first pre op on the 22nd of December and my 2nd pre op with the Anaesthesist Mr Youseff on the 6th of January. Got my date for surgery off him at that appointment, because I was fit for surgery. Some people don't get them straight away if not fit for surgery! I am going to meet Mr Khan & his team on Monday and will also sign the consent form. Then I wll be waiting for February the 22nd to HURRY UP! x

Oh and I lovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvve pretties lol

I live in Erdington, Birmingham. I am under BENPCT and was referred by my GP late September/early October 2008. I simply walked into his surgery, blurted out that I want to be considered for WLS and he referred me (after checking the criteria).

Had my first appointment at Walsall Manor on 6th November. At that appointment I was weighed, height measured, BMI calculated (just over 50).

I then saw Ana, the bariatric specialist nurse and then Dr. Hartland. Roux en Y gastric bypass by open surgery was suggested as the best choice for me and I agreed. I was told by both Ana and Dr. Hartland that there is a 4 - 5 months waiting list for surgery.

My next appointment for 27th March 2009 (with the psychologist) came through before Christmas. I spoke with Ana as to why I am having this and I was worried that I would not be added to the list until after then.

She assured me that it did not affect that and that he was seeing me to check how I am coping and would potentially cope with WLS. I am currently off work with severe depression and have a history of depression.

I have been waiting for my date and also being impatient I chased my funding last Friday. I spoke to the lady who sends the funding applications out and it was sent on 22nd December.

I then rang the lady at the PCT who deals with the funding requests and she said she hadn't had anything for me, though had received some dated after 22nd December.

I rang the lady at Walsall Manor on Monday to be told she had sent it to the wrong PCT! She then emailed it over to BENPCT the same day and indeed rang me back to assure me she had done so.

This afternoon I received a call from WM to say that they had had an email response from BENPCT and I have had funding agreed.

Am now waiting that magic brown envelope that will have my surgery-related dates in.

Allie, please tell me how to get pretties x

Congratulations on the confirmed funding Brunetteandred! At least now you just need to wait for a date, and the funding worry is over - it's just a time game now for you.

I had posted a message about my WLS journey with Walsall, but a message came up saying it had to be approved by a moderator... how peculiar! I have managed to post others already! Anyone know why?

Its the second one you want. click on it, its starts with url. Then press ctrl c this will copy it. Go back to minimins click where you want the pretty and press ctrl v. A load of writing will come up, thats ok once you post you will see the pretty. Good luck it took me ages cuz i'm a dozy bint! lol

I thought that was the case initially, but it appears that it is 4-5 months from when funding is approved.

I can give you the details of the lady who deals with the funding applications at WM to contact if you wish (off list).

Hi,
I'm Sue. Live in Great Barr. I weigh 17s 5lbs. BMI of 42.9. GP referred me on 9th Jan. Still waiting for my initial appointment. Don't know yet whether I need a band or a bypass.

Don't worry Sue, that will be discussed with you at the appointment. You will need to consider what kind of eater you are as the band is easier to cheat.

I think I have already said so, but......

I can't wait for ya to get your brown envelope either! lol

hello Im Terri I am awaiting a bypass got my pre ops on 27th Feb for bloods and respiratory function test and then see Anaesthetist on 24th March and if all is well I will get my op date, my 20 week waiting time ends 12th May so hopefully I will be on the losing side then.
I first saw Dr Hartland on Oct 23rd and as there was some confusion casue I had 2 files and the one they were working off showed me as a no show. So this held up funding application and things. As there is a high turn over of staff at walsall or they keep mpving departments altough my funding was approved on 9th Dec I wasn't actually put on the waiting list until 23rd dec, which is when they received the faxed confirmation.
I am about 21 stone, 34 yrs old and live in kingstanding with my hubby and 2 girls aged 2 and 10. Oh yes and I'm not quite right in the head so I apologise in advance if my warpped sense of humour offends or upsets any one, just tell me to shut up I won't bite you I promise:17729:. :eatdrink023:

I am a bit put out that all seem to have met all these different people I have only met Dr Hartland. Oh yeah and I'm on Incapacity benefit due to arthritus in my lower spine.:wavey::hitthefan:

Cheers Brunetteandred - I'm not worried if it is 4-5 months from date of funding, as long as I get the funding! I know Ana checked the file but I am trying not to stick my head in the sand and just hope for the best, and be proactive. I think I've activated PMs..!!!

Lorna, I would say that if you had your appointment in November you may need to chase up your funding application now as others have had to do. You wont go onto the waiting list for surgery until your funding application has been approved
