can anyone please tell me how long you have to do weight management for under walsall is it 6 months or 12 months? thankyou x

its 6 months...finished mine in october x

hi sarah im on 6 months weight management but with walsall heartcare what happens when you have finished the course hun? xx

well basically if you have shown to have tried your best eg a small weight loss, tried medication offered to you and exercise etc then dr heartland( or whoever your doctor is) will write to walsall pct asking for funding on your behalf x

Well i had to go and see the doc tuesday just gone and it was to first time i had seen him since october last year. So when i went i was ready to have it out with him...get things of my chest etc because i finished my weight management in oct and i'd been trying for 4 months to get to see him, everytime i had my appointment he wouldn't be there. Anyway, when i finally saw him he told me he'd applied for funding back in oct, showed me the letter and everything. He asked if i had heard anything and i said "no", so he is going to send another letter. I'm trying to chase it up at the minute but can't seem to speak to the right people. I'm hopeful though. He didn't say that there was no funding available just that it was limited x

we will, stay positive!! how long have you got left on the weight management?

will be my 3rd week monday i got to there gym 2 x a week as well , got to say the weight loss is just ounces NOT pounds but all i can do is try my best. thay wanted me to loose nearly 2.5 stone in 12 weeks omgggggggg they got no chance lol

Christ, thats a tall order. I only lost 6 pounds over the 6 months...i tried and i'm sure could have tried a bit harder x

Hi Tinkerboom,

I started the weight management on the 9th June 09, initially for 6 weeks but I got lost in the system for ages and had my final appointment in Aprl 10, up until then all I had lost was about 14lb. Was only then he mentioned surgery, heard nothing for ages so rang the pct Sept and they said no letter had been sent, then a few weeks later I called back and was told funding had been agreed. I am on the waiting list and have had one appointment with Dr Kendrick so far, next one booked for July, but Tracey Lowe has told me that the op will be later on this year.

im doing my weight management with walsall heartcare , no mention of weight loss surgery nothing all she said was she has access to Dr Heartland if they feel medication necessary ! ( i already been on zenical/orlistat) is there any other they use????

Hi guys, it seems rather bizarre that you are expected to carry out a weight management course (if we could do it then we would not be here !!!) what happens if you do really well and lose a lot of weight – does this hamper your chances of getting funding ??? Mine seems so much simpler – (1) go to GP discuss matters, (2) agree referral go to see Consultant (3) have appointment for surgery (all in around 8 weeks, with a guarantee it will never take more than 18 weeks start to finish) . . . I guess each PCT have their own rules but as I said all really perverse. Good luck and best wishes xx

Totally agree Kevin, they seem to make it as hard as possible for Walsall patients. I am on the list fro a bypass at Walsall and because I live in Woloverhampton do noit have to do weight management. I will have waited around 18 months at least when I hopefulliy get my date though. The 18 week rule went out the window long ago.

Glad your journey seems easier. Good luck.
