Slim for 2009
:confused::confused:
Does anyone know if there is anything in the WW rules that stop you from being a member if you have had weight loss surgery???
:chores016:

i know a couple of banders that are w/w members, theres nothing stopping you going, but some of the other members at w/w dont like it and can get a bit B*TCH*y saying its cheating. If you want to do that theres no reason why not.

I wondered that too but I bet the others woudl go mad if you were slimmer of the week or something.
I prefer SW but feel the same way, even though I am not even close tohaving my band lol
x

I think it will be a good way to get moral support and to eat healthy food, as I'm a member already - but prob won't tell anyone!!

I cant see why anyone would complain because after surgery you still need to follow a healthy diet and it shows that you are willing to make more of an effort...good luck chick if you do go xx

Thanks! I am already a member so I will prob carry on going to get weighed. I go to a class at 7.30 am in Burnley!!:8855:

I attended ww when I was on reductil, I never told them but I still never lost weight apart from one week I lost 8lb but it all went back on the following two weeks...are you going to tell people there you have had the band? I have to say I have only told 5 close friends about my surgery, it's not that I feel ashamed or anything like that I just dont see why people need to know. xx

No I won't tell them as I think a lot of people don't really know what it involves and think it's unhealthy or starvation whereas I don't really see why you can't still follow WW with a band. I don't intend to tell anyone - not even close friends - before I have it done and then maybe might tell them when I know it's working ok!

I am actually on the SW plan after having a band fitted....ok, I dont attend classes, but the losses are steady, even if I cant eat as much as I used to!!!
If you dont tell them, how will they know to make judgement?! Its entirely up to you, but they cant stop you from becoming a member.

Thanks Mrs V - and well done on fab weight loss!

Thank you Grom...I am living proof that this does work!!

There is another side to this WW issue - supposing you go and dont tell them you have had a band fitted, and yes you lose weight each week, but standing next to you is someone thats also losing weight each week but hasn't had a band fitted......! how would you feel then ? knowing you didn't have the strenght or will power to go it alone !

It also costs more, the WW food range isn't that nice and god knows whats in it, plus you have to queue up and pay to be weighed ! WHY ?

Sorry i sound really negative, i lost a lot of weight with WW twice, and if you can maintain the weight lose it is good and does work, but why go when you have a tool inside you to help you lose weight, access to dieticians and doctors etc

I don't see the point in paying to attend a group when you have had the surgery. The band will restrict the amount you can eat and you will lose weight with or without WW. Why pay to get weighed when you can do that at home or at boots? If you are already a member you know the plan so there's no reason you shouldn't continue to follow the principles.

I just have to say, people who say that surgery is cheating really annoy me. My friend has just been approved for a band and the process so far has been a terrible experience for her and the worst is yet to come! It's by no means an easy option and it is only ignorance that make people think that

Keep going if the support helps you then do it !!.

its ok saying its a tool but that tool can still be cheated so if it helps you then do it.After all it is only you that can decide what is right for you

And people will always find somthing to moan about so let them as long as you lose weight healthily and steady then its only them that moan that look stupid !!

Well, I think the more tools I have in my toolbox - the better job I'm gonna do!

Theres certainly nothing in the WW rules to stop you going if you think it would help, presumably to help your weight loss youre going to want to follow some kind of healthy eating plan.

Noone else at your class needs to know how much youve lost unless you choose to tell them. If youre only going to be losing a couple of lbs a week then thats within the WW range :)

As a WW member Id have no problems with a person whos had a band going to my class. I have objected on more than one occasion on here about people doing CD going to WW classes for wi's but thats completely different.

You do whatever you think will help you best :)

Thanks Starlight - what's CD?
Well like you say, I still want to make sure I am eating healthily - everyone on here emphasises that you have to 'work with the band' to make it work - and it's bad eating habbits that got me here in the first place!! I don't want to lose the weight too quickly as I think I will need time to adjust to my new shape, so a couple of pound a week is fine by me!

CD is Cambridge Diet where you only have shakes etc and lose about a stone a month, its not the first time Ive seen someone on it talk about going to WW for wi's and I think thats so wrong, its not fair.

From what I can gather about a band, its not a 'fast fix' so you may not be losing much more than people purely sticking to WW. What Ive found about WW is its re-educated how I look at food, and the choices I make, so following it sounds like a good plan ;)

Ah CD of course - yuk - tried it once - couldn't do it.
I have been a WW member on and off most of my adult life and I think the points programme they have now is fab. I am currently a member and don't want to lose the friends and support I get there - and really want to learn - and stick to - a healthy eating plan - band or no band.
Some people don't see the point - but each to his/her own I guess!!
(It's a bit like keeping the stabiliser wheels on when you're learning to ride a bike!!)

Ultimately you have to do whats right for you and if the support etc that you get at WW helps... go for it :)
