weightloss week 1+2?

Hi All,

Happy new year for tomorrow!

Can I ask people how your first two weeks of weight loss went?

I think I was expecting a massive difference, which I guess in a week is gonna be hard.

I was on the cambridge diet earlier in the year and lost 10bs week one and then 7lbs week two. It was after that it started to plateu so i came off it.

I guess every WLS patient will worry about not losing weight after surgery.

I think for me it could be that my body responds well to shock, and because I was on the intense pre-op diet maybe my body is now comfortable with eating less.

I know it's only been a week, I guess i'm just worrying a little.

I'm going to go to the drs today for an accurate reading as I was weighed there about a month ago.

If you could just share with me your first two weeks... did it just fall off, did it take a while? anything I can do to speed it up?

Thanks,

Sophie

week one post op i gained a couple of pounds due to the drip - week 2/3 i lost about 9 lbs and nothing since !!

x

hun for the first couple of weeks your belly will be swollen as it needs to go through the healing process, dont worryaout no weightloss in the first couple of weeks... every body is different and we all lose at different levels... ive just had a week where i havnt lost a thing.. and i thin everyone will go through that.. im five weeks post bypass. The weight will come off hun, just you concentrate on getting yourself well xx

I lost 8lb wk 1 and 7lb wk 2 but have averaged only 2lb a wk since xx

Start of pre-op to end of first week (approx 3 weeks) -18lb
2nd week -2lb
3rd week -2lb
4th week -3lb
5th week -4lb
6th week -4lb
I lost an average of a stone a month until about 8 months out then slowed down to between 1lb and 8lb off a month until 16th month when I lose nothing then the next month I lost 7lb but didn't lose anything in December.
I now hope that I will be able to maintain a steady weight
Oh yes I had a bypass

I had 9lb week 1 and 8lb week 2, but I know everyone is different, and you can't compare a band with a bypass as you have no restriction until you've had a fill. Be patient, it's far too early to worry xx

I've just finished week one and have lost 3lbs. I did start my period (sorry it tmi!) 2 days after my op though so i'm hoping that's the reason for the slow start :) Time will tell when I weigh myself at the end of week two!

H xx

I started the pre-op diet in September and lost 10lbs in 6 days before being told my op wasn't happening. I didn't regain that 10lbs!

Started again on December 1st and lost nothing the first week but, by surgery date, found I'd lost 7lbs over the 2 weeks, and 15lbs since seeing the surgeon 9 weeks earlier!!

I am now 2 weeks post-op and have lost another 15lbs since my surgery on the 16th!!

Every procedure has differing results. I was sleeved. I was losing scarily fast during the first week or two (but then again I do weigh myself unwisely I know, every morning!) then it stalled, then I GAINED 3lbs and freaked, turned out I was dehydrated. All in all over the 7 weeks since pre op, op and five weeks post op, I've lost 27lbs.

We all get horribly impatient I know. I'm the worst culprit. I keep going into the spare room and trying on this gorgeous small sized leather jacket with fur inside that I wore last time I was skinny and hoping it will meet around my middle, but it doesn't yet. You have to think how long it took you to gain the weight? You can't expect to lose it all in a week or two! I love it that all the people on the forum are talking in terms of next year, not next month! Gives me perspective of how long this is all going to take.

Thanks for your comments, I know also that as I have had a band fitted my restriction wont set is properly until my first fill which is on the 27th Jan.

Obviously I have some restriction at the moment due to tummy being swollen and the band being in place but the weight I am losing at the moment is because of the decrease in food and being on liquid/soft diet.

Hopefully once I've had my first fill i'll see some big results.

I have around 5.5 stone to lose so i'm aiming for by the end of the year (if not by summer).

:)

Hello Miss Cupcake,

Although It is great to get replies to thread, please please let's not compare between surgeries! People are all different and even more different with different surgeries (was that a lot of different??!! lol)

So first week I lost 5 pounds, second week 2 pounds, third week 1.5 pounds, week four 2 pounds, week five 2 pounds, week six sts, week seven 1 pounds, week eight sts, week 9 sts. I had a fill week 10 3 pounds and for the last past two weeks sts. I just want to be honnest and don't want you to have the illusion that you are going to have big and fast losses like you have with other surgery. Sorry if this sounds negative, but I want to be perfectly honnest. But I did lots of research so I am happy with my current loss although I am very much looking forward to my second fill on 21st Jan as i do not have any restriction since the swelling of the op went down (which was at week 4). Currently i have 5ml in 10ml band. HTH xxxx

Yes listen to mis, we banders will progress at a different pace to bypassers etc partly due to our after are regime of fills! So long as its coming off don't worry. I want 3 st off by summer for a skinny bikini lol when I go to turkey....I will do it IF I work with the band and not against it xx

I agree with the other banders. I was initially embarrassed to post this but I can tell you my weight hasn't changed overall since being banded. Bit I think that's a fantastic thing when I rationalise it. I was eating 'normal'' portions over Xmas and I'm learning to feel full which is a new sensation. I left food on my plate! To not gain weight over Xmas is a miracle for me. I currently have 4ml on a 10ml band. I'm getting a grip and using exercise and willpower till my second fill on the 20th jan. I can't tolerate bread and chips anymore but other things like pizza go down fine! I reckon the second fill will kick start my weight loss. At the moment I'm re-educating myself. If I can lose 5.5 stones by the end of the year I'll be very chuffed like you! Good luck xxx

Although I had a bypass not a band my first week was terrible. With my pre-op diet I lost 2 stone in 2 weeks. However 5 days post op I had put on 3 stone. This was water retention in the hospital. My legs swelled up like a bowling ball. But by two weeks post op I had peed out that three stone and lost another stone. I'm
Now three months post op and I've lost 6.85 stone in total. But it fluctuates. One week it's minimal and the next it's loads. Scales are my enemy. We all say weigh once a week and every week I say that's my plan. However there is rarely a day that passes that I don't weigh.
What people have said and what I've experienced to be true, even if one week you don't lose mass your usually lose inches.
Don't fret too much. Your body has been through a shock too and internal swelling could take some time to ease xxx
