Hi!
I had my RNY in 2011, lost over 100lbs but gained Sacroiliac Joint Disorder!! Wouldn't change anything though, just a pain not to be able to take NSAIDs to ease it.

Hi all Joanne I see you say you can't take NSAIDS is this something that you can't take when you've had gastric surgery generally or is it particular to you .....I had a back op in 2000 and it caused some problems so I rely on painkillers and NSAIDS to help me work (hairdresser) any more info would be helpful xxx

I was advised on this forum, and by my GP and surgeon, that you're not able to take NSAIDs following a gastric bypass due to the effects they have on your stomach.
Even 4 years out, the consultant who does my review appointments will not re-prescribe them.
It's a pain, because I have athritis in my ankle due to a nasty break, and that is affected by not being able to take them either.

Thanks Joanne for the info that's something I woukd need to consider and discuss with professionals I think as quite often I rely on these to keep me working ...wonder if there is anything else. xx

Yes, if you really depend on them, it's better to discuss your options. There is the possibility that the pains may ease naturally with weight loss, but if it's an underlying condition, such as arthritis, it won't be helped by carrying less weight.
I think this is why it's important to go through such stringent checks and discussions prior to surgery.
