hi everyone,
i went to the doctors yesterday to ask for referral for wls. honestly, i was so nervous u would think i was going to ask her to fund it personally, lol.
anyway, she agrees that surgery would be a valid choice for me but said i have to go via a weight management team.
does anyone know what this entails and whether this means im now going to wait forever before they decide whether i should be referred for wls or not,
thanks in advance. :)

its normally a specialised service where they offer you the services of a dietitician and counsellor, there are quite a few minis who have had to do this route and I'm sure they will be along shortly to tell you a bit more in detail. One thing I do remember from their posts is that they have all got some benefit from it after there ops if not before.

I was under Salford PCT which requires 6 months of weight management, working with a dietician and trying any pills you haven't tried yet. I was able to get out of it after 2 months due to the documentation from my GP who had worked specifically with me on weight loss for the 6 months prior. For those 2 months, I kept a food diary and learned a bit about healthy eating and how large my portions really were. It was time well spent and helped me be in the right frame of mind for my surgery. It is actually a good thing for me personally.

HTH,
Nic:)

Hi cheryl welcome to mini's i self funded but there are a large number on here who have been through a weight management program prior to WLS

ty for the replies.
now is the time for me to learn to be patient, i guess.
hopefully i will also gain something from the weight management programme.

Hi
I am one of them I am under Salford PCT and there new rules as of last October are a minimum of 6 month weight management. To be honest its a hoop to jump through. I should not still be having it after 4 months she has said that herself I have been on xenical for almost 4 years and been fat for 22 years so come on !!! But hey whats another 6 months
I have a food diary that i take every month (I have been doing these for a year or so, so it was no different)
I tel her what diets I have done, which worked which didnt, I continue with Xenical (Shame) I tell her what weight i woudl be happy with, she gives me lots of leaflets and paperwork and info on teh two main ops.
She is very good (she is called Helen Davidson) I go to one at the Walkden Lift centre its held on a Tuesday and i go once a month to be weighed and talk in quite a bit of detail about my food diary and what calories, grams of fat and brands of food they are.
It is nothing like I expected and to be honest it has helped me with food I was having a problem with that I had never read the labels of i.e. Mayo, yes I knew it was bad for me but didnt know 90% of my brand was fat when my limit is 5%.
So go in with your ears and eyes open and take it all in, It is a good thing (my posts 4 montsh ago didnt think so) and it gives you 6 mnths to read everything you can, gather info, change your eating habits.
I also go to the gym and this is a good thing as far as they are concerned as they need to know you are excercising as well as dieting.
Good Luck
xx
