Hi all,

I was thinking of giving the milk diet a try for 2 weeks to try and shift some weight before I see the phsycologist. Do they take your BMI from your very first weigh in?

What do you think good idea - bad idea?

Linski xx

Where you at, Walsall ?

If so i would not lose any weight, they sent my friend a appointment and he had to gain weight to ensure his BMI was still over 50..

I think WM are trying to narrow down some ppl if they now do not meet criteria...

i to would say dont do it...... just go as you are let them get true reading of yourself and maybe once your on the list for surgery if you wanna give yourself a boost do it then x

No I wouldn't. Don't risk your surgery until you are definitely on the waiting list.

I would advise NO, in my opinion the milk diet is a one time only thing if you do it now i think you may struggle when you have to do it for real xx

I know they are all correct in what they are telling you and I agree but isnt bloody stupid that we have to stay fat to get surgery.

I can remember when I asked for surgery my doctor told me I wasnt fat enough ..... only 7 and half stone overweight.

Stupid isnt it.

The milk diet should not be used as a weight loss aid, it is purely to shrink your liver so that it is fit for suregry. I agree Nadine its a one time only thing.

There are varying opinions about the rights and the wrongs of the milk diet not only amongst people on here but amongst speacialists with in the same team at the same hospital. If I had my time again I would do the milk diet again as my liver shrinking diet with out a shadow of a doubt, if I'd have complications then may be I would be saying a different thing. It is something that should be used once in a lifetime only.

Linski as you know my Trev has seen the psychiatrist at Walsall Manor. He'd virtually decided before we walked in the room that Trevor would have his surgery! He just wanted to make sure Trev wasn't a fruit cake before telling us that....

What made him think that Trev was mentally fit for surgery? The fact that in between his first appointment and seeing Mr Kendrick my Trev lost over a stone in weight. As the psychologist saw it Trevor was addressing his food issues and making changes that would carry through his life after surgery...

If you were going somewhere i didn't know i would say don't do it. What i'm saying to you now is this... Change your eating habits, start eating healthier, nothing drastic like the milk diet. Maybe do slimming world or weight watchers and drop a few pounds. Mr Kendrick will be pleased you have made the effort and take it as a positive step.

For others reading my post, please be aware that WM do not make people funded by other pct's apart from their own lose weight before surgery...

Good luck Lin and if you do choose to shift a few lbs be sure to weigh in here so we can encourage you with your losses xxx

Given Julie's post I'd say have a go at shifting a little weight...BUT...as many other people have said, NOT the milk diet. It's not a balanced diet and you can end up malnourished. Do Atkins, SW etc. Do it the healthy way. And by the way, not everyone has such great weight loss results on the Milk Diet in any case. I didn't. It's about shrinking your liver, not weight loss!

Thanks again everyone, I hear you about the milk diet so will not being doing that. I want to just show that my mind id i the right palce regarding surgery. I have been frightened to lose weight so far for fear of dropping below BMI. I have never been this heavy and I suppose I feel guilty for not focusing on what I am actually eating.
So, I am going to start a healthy eating plan which is way overdue this time and I can afford to lose 12 -14lb and still have a BMI fitting the criteria for my PCT automatic funding. I should have my actual date to see Mr K tomorrow so will take it from there.

It sure is a nightmare Ladylite when you are reluctant to lose weight for fear of being turned down.

My GP has applied for funding direct to my PCT and just wondered if I am lucky enough to get it can they retract it at anytime? Mind you I am a doubting Thomas and feel sure I am going to be refused so We will wait and see.

Love to you all.

Linski, that sounds like a great plan. It is crazy when we're afraid to lose weight!

Well done on finding your motivation now and be sure to log your food and weight losses and we'll be on the sidelines, cheering you on.
I was told once my funding was agreed, that was that, done deal. I waited 18 months from funding being granted to surgery. Never had a sniff of it being questioned.
