Hi Guys

It's 12 days til my op and I want to get some shopping in soon for when we're home from our ops (me and hubby having them together on 21 Feb).

I'd be really grateful if someone could tell me what I need to get in so I haven't got to go shopping for a week or two.

Thanks guys, I'm off to bed now as my alarm goes off at 5.30 for work! xx

Kaz go online and get it delivered,so much easier and you dont pick up crap you dont need!

Get some marvel to add extra protein to milky drinks... I had loads of semi skimmed milk drinks in the first few days... in low horlicks... very comforting...

Be careful if you are buying ice cream... hubby got me a low fat ice cream.. less than 3% but when I read it the sugar content was 15%... I think I'm right in thinking that we should always not also aim for low fat but a sugar content of under 10%.

Good luck. Love and hugs Angel xxx

Apart from the chewy vitamins and minerals..desolvable pain killer and deflatine and gripe water for the wind and fresh mouth spray, iv got...Plenty of tinned thin soups which i have to drain...sugar free jellies..ss milk powder...slimfast...protein powder...porridge...weetabix. I will get fresh ss milk and yogurts nearer the time. I bought a blender for the pureed stage. These are the things my nurse told me to get in but as we all know every team has different advise love so bear that in mindx

Sugga, what soups have you brought?

make your own soups then you know exactly whats in it and then no nasty suprises, blend any lumps out and freeze it in ice cube trays, 1-2 cubes defrosted is just a perfect portion and saves on wastage of food.

Great idea liz.
I bought ministrone, chicken broth any soups that are not thick so can be strained, no tomato though for some reason. My nurse said to keep everything cheap and simple. Lots of good ideas for us to follow. Just remembered low fat cheese to add to soups. xxx

dont buy heinz tomato soup its loaded in sugar and will make you dump x

Interesting, my op is scheduled to take place early April . . . . so I will be immediately 10,000 pounds lighter ! Hoping to lose around 140lb. I have a standard blender which we used for making shakes and alike – will this do ??? If I buy say Heinz cream of chicken soup can it be ‘blended and strained’ . . . . ?

Ingredients : Water, Chicken (3%), Modified Cornflour, Vegetable Oil, Cream, Dried Skimmed Milk, Wheat Flour, Flavourings, Milk Proteins, Cornflour, Yeast Extracts, Herb Extracts, Stabiliser - Polyphosphates and Sodium Phosphates, Salt, Garlic Salt, Spice Extract, Colour - Beta-Carotene

I've ages to go but I'm already stocking up and have my icecube trays, ramekins and little plastic pots for my jellies. I'm practicing making soups - up to now most are quite tasty, but wondered if it would be ok to use the stock cubes and dried herbs in the soups to give it flavour post-op or would these irritate the pouch?

I haven't got a date yet but have been given a guess of March time, I have been told via Chichester Hospital to start 1-2 tbsp Puree foods for first 4 weeks. I have got in some 30ml freezable baby pots (LOL) so can make my own soups to blitz and freeze in portions. I have got a stick blender thingy and a blender.... have just bought a water filter jug as I HATE tap water and this'll work out cheaper than buying water and encourage me to drink more fluids. We have been told to aim what we have as less than 5g sugar per 100g of food/fluid. They also suggest 3 small main meals and 2-3 small snacks so about 6 eating occasions - no longer than 4 hours between food.
We've had suggested as an idea for first puree month - Porridge/Ready Brek/ Weetabix for breakkie (URGH!!! to all 3 of those!!!) for Breakfast, Liquidised soup eg Pea&Ham or Lentil Chicken&Rice (basically ones with meat in), very soft mashed potato with finely minced meat for Lunch. Evening meal could be Shepherds Pie with well cooked Carrots or Fish in white sauce with very soft mashed pots and well cooked swede. Snacks could be Sugar free Custard/Angel Delight/instant whip, low fat / low sugar milkshake, Low fat/diet yog or from frais or fruit fuice diluted 50/50 with water.
For speed they suggest you could try Tinned Fish or Chicken in sauce, Tinned or Packet Soup, Pasta Sauces, Tinned Pasta Dishes eg Spag Bol, Macaroni Cheese, Ravioli, Instant mash, Ready meals frozen or fresh, tinned fruit in juice, tinned low fat rice/milk pudding or instant/ready made low fat/low sugar custard.

I have been calorie counting but ofcourse I was more looking at Cals than fat etc so will have to check through cupboards. Got loadsa WW Tuna in mayo etc which I am going to check out as could blitz that a bit and it'd in theory turn into like a sloppy dip/pate....they were on a good offer so had stocked up LOL.
I struggle with the idea that my body will tell me enough is enough when I am used to going by how many calories I have left or Syns when doing Slimming World.... in a way I wish I have a very fixed diet plan to follow. Just need to trust myself I think and keep coming on the forums etc.

This is a great thread. Can anyone put a list of what they ate (in general) week 1 2 3 4 etc post gastric bypass op?

Would be good to get stuff in now rather than getting a list when uve had your op.

:0) xxxx

there's a few nice soup recipes here, all with fat grammes listed etc.

Low Fat Recipes

Thanks for all your suggestions. Didn't even think bout things like gripe water!

im gunna start saving yogurt pots from now on so i can do the sf jelly in for post op! x
