I have been referred by my doctor to doctor khan and am just wondering how long its likely to hear something from them? X

It very much depends what area you are in Vikki and what hospital you have been referred to.

These were my timescales:

-- late January 2011 ..... GP sends off referral letter to Mr Sufi at Whittington Hospital

-- June 2011 ..... invited to attend Information Session at the Whittington (asked to fill in a form at this stage with previous medical history and eating and sleeping habits)

-- August 2011 ...... my GP applied for funding to Greenwich PCT which was approved by the end of Sept 2011

-- September 2011 ..... first appointment with consultant (in fact a registrar) to discuss my case, current weight and co-morbidities, and tests needed

-- Oct / Dec 2011 ..... underwent various tests: lung function, sleep apnoea, endoscopy, etc etc (fortunately I skipped the psych eval stage as my eating habits appeared to be "normal" -- whatever normal is for "very oversize portions" - no binge eating, no skipping meals, just very large meals --- oooops!)

-- January 2012 ....... surgery review meeting with consultant to discuss all the test results, confirm which surgery I wanted, put me on the waiting list, and on the list to have a pre-surgery appointment within the next 8 weeks

-- 6 March 2012 ....... pre-surgery appointment with a nurse, blood and weight tests again, given pre-op diet sheet

-- 17 April 2012 ....... appointent for operation date confirmed and printed out on 6 March at the pre-surgery appointment

As stated this was the timescale at the Whittington (15 - 18 months) -- other hospitals can be less.

Even within London, i have since been told that if I had been referred to UCH the timescale would have been only approx 8 months.

In other areas of the UK waiting times can be less. (I think both flowersofshona and pandora in Bournemouth have had approx 6 month times from September 2011 referrals to March 2012 operations.)

I'm with calderdale and kirklees pct and this is my time scale so far:
Oct 2011 - was reffered

December - had 1st seminar (to dicsuss what happens from then to years after the op)
Jan 2012- met surgeon
Jan Feb and march - had all tests (bloods sleep apnea and endoscopy)
Then next wed I see my surgeon again then I will be on the waiting list for surgery :) (18 weeks is the max wait for my area)

Thanks my doc only sent the letter a couple if weeks ago but i wait with baited breath to hear something back ... X

Well my primary physician referred me in Nov 2011. I went to the WLS seminar at Duke Hospital in here in Durham, NC in Dec.2011.
Jan 2012 had all my tests/bloodwork done. Started going to the mandatory group mtgs in Jan/Feb/Mar 2012. At the end of Feb I was given my date of April 5th 2012.
I was expecting it to be a longer wait but this area has many qualified doctors & programs. And my insurance is for once excellent.

I do hope that you have a better and much quicker experience than I have had;

I was referred by GP in July 2009;

1st appt December 10th 2009 - consultant didn't turn up!

2nd appt December 30th 2009 - new consutant, positive, told timelines; waiting times etc & said should be done by sept 2010.

3rd appt - May 2010 - dietician appt - told all hoops jumped through successfully, come back in 6 weeks to 'do' funding application.

4th appt - March 2011 - dietician again, apologies for delay - told to see new consultant in May and application would be done.

4th appt - March 2012 - finally appt with consultant, told application will be done and should have date within three months

In between these appointments, had all tests done (diabetes; sleep apnoea etc); consultants have left; new ones hired; lost medical notes; non existent appointments etc.

I am currently chasing up the consultant who still hasn't done my application for funding.

I'm exactly the same, I daren't tempt fate by using the 'pre opper' badge on here or put down all my other info, you know surgeon, BMI, weight etc.
But I'm hoping after my group session appointment I'll know more and be able to become a 'pre opper'! :D

iam going through the same stages as you at the moment, my doctor sent the referral off nearly 4 weeks ago i had a phone call saying i needed to go into the surgery for a fasting blood test as the hospital requested it. now im just waiting to hear from the hospital!! i keep looking for the post man lol, very nice and comforting to know others are at the same stage xx

The waiting is wat does you in .. Isnt it!! Xx
