WHAT'S YOUR CRITERIA ?

I'm have just put my appeal in to Stockport PCT for surgery as I was refused at the end of March with a BMI of 52 and no co-morbidities. My GP first referred me to the Weight Management Service in December 2009 when I did fit their criteria for surgery but after all the faffing about going to all the required courses and group meetings etc, the PCT in the meantime, have decided to ignore the NICE guidelines and make their own up and now they say I'm not eligible  I'll keep you all informed how I go on.

However, I'm being nosy and wanted to ask all the people who have recently been granted funding or are awaiting funding, what is your BMI and do you have any co-morbs.

Thanks

Best of Luck and I hope you get your funding.

My BMI was over 60 with no other co-morbidities....though originally it was 58 (as my GP didn't measure my height to start with) and i would not have got funding in Hampshire with a BMI of 58

Not sure what it is now , but when I had my surgery last summer the Bmi had too be over 35 with several comorbities or 40+ with fewer ones, I am sure thats probably changed now due to funding and cut backs.

I have no comorbidities. I was refused funding with a bmi of 49.9 and granted funding 8 weeks later with a bmi of 50.3. Even the surgeon commented that the pct had been a bit stingy when they refused me the first time.

For my pct the requirements are 45 bmi with serious comorbidities and 50 bmi without. They offer no weight management course.

My pct has just changed it's rules. They are now at 50 bmi. I am at 40 and have diabetes and met the criteria before but don't know :(. So that's me £6k worse off

The criteria here in Richmond is bmi of 40 or over. I am not sure if that is the whole area or just my doctors.

Mine was 49 with no comorbidities.

Good luck x

My bmi is 71 and i have co morbities... x

York and North Yorkshire PCT are at 50 without co morbidities or 40 with serious co morbidities and 45 with associated co morbidities but will consider appeals (i.e borderline dibietis) . I was originally at 44.1 so paid myself - still the best money ever spent . . . .

Nice guidlines are only used by the PCTs when they support their point of view !!!

Good luck hun . . .

My PCT's criteria:

BMI over 45 with type 2 diabetes or BMI over 50 with comorbidities which are likely to be improved with weight loss or BMI over 65 without comorbidities. Patients must have failed to achieve or maintain weight loss after one years intensive management in a specialist obesity clinic setting.

I didnt even bother applying for funding with no co morbidities :D

Thank you all very much for taking the trouble to reply. I can only try and see where I get. I'll keep you posted.

It seems hard to believe that peeps with BMI's of 50+ or even 60 are not getting funding. Very mad world and even more annoying that it is still a postcode lottery. Rant over.

Good luck with your funding xx
