What happens between my op and my first fill???

Will I lose anything??

Are the first fills just about getting it right and then I will lose??

Hi, I can't tell you from experience as I am pre op. However,I was told that I can expect to loose 2 stone between op and first fill as I will be on a liquid diet for 3 weeks, then puree for 2 then normal food. SO hopefully they will be wright. The work comes after the fill and you have to loose the rest and keep it off. For a lot of people the first stone or so is the easiest and tbh I have always found that part easy it is the rest that is harder.

hi dutchess, the initial restriction felt after the op is only down to swelling, that does wear off pretty quickly, week 6 is normal for the 1st fill to happen some times weight can be regained but its not usually alot. stick to the rules "your" surgeon gives you and you will be ok 1-2llbs a week is average.

thanks.

I just want to be happy and normal. It is the most hope Ive ever had in my life.

Knowing that something can be done to help us lose weight is the greatest feeling in the world, BUT you have to be prepared to work with the band as this is a tool to help you lose weight and keep it off so be prepared for the hard work that lies ahead after your op. Good luck Dutchess and please don't think I'm having a go I just want you to be aware of whats in front of you xx Gaynor xx

all advice is welcome :)

Hi Duchess, I have lost 28lbs so far but that includes a very large loss on the milk diet. I've found it necessary to stick totally to what has been said to me - and obviously there is a lot of support here and some very experienced banders. As you have said, you feel this is a great opportunity for you so use it and it will work for you. Where are you having the op? Private or NHS?
Good luck.

im private in nuffield hospital leeds

just being nosey who is your surgery provider and are you getting post-op care in with what you have paid?

I had to pay for mine too. It helped with the motivation I think as there is no way on this earth I'm going to waste £5,500 of money that my husband and I scrimped and borrowed for. Plus I am telling everyone which is an incentive for me a) because I'm not spending all that money and not let people know! b) because if I don't lose a significant amount of weight I'm going to feel an utter T***.

The main thing I worry about that I will get ill ( severe Bipolar Disorder) and try and sabotage myself. I'm hoping to get into the habit of not putting food first before I get ill again. Im smoking more though.

I read and and reread all the info as my meds make it hard to concentrate. And of course, there is always support and help here.

i am with the hospital group - it was 7500 with a 500 discount

I only get 4 fills and nutrition visits, but my fills are local as opposed to having to go across to the mainland

I shopped around and could find it a bit cheaper but liked the option of my local visits in northern ireland.

5000 is a great price!

Yes, it was the cheapest I could find. Have to pay for own fills at £125 a pop but I have my psych, dietician, consultant and nurses provided on NHS as part of weight management clinic I go to (virtually no wls ops in Wales on NHS - so for some of them, I'm the only WLS patient they have worked with so am something of a novelty!)

Hi, I am paying 6950 which includes pre op consulation and diet. Unlimited fills and support groups dietician, bariatric nurse 24 hour help line and more for life.

I think that the aftercare package is just as important as the procedure itself.

I am 30 and wish I have done something a good few years ago. I think by doing this now you are setting yourself up to have the best health in later life.

Good Luck x

i can only go by my own experience i lost 10lbs preop diet 8lbs in first 2 weeks post opand have lost 1-2lbs a week ever since i assume this is the same for most it was harder for first few months till i had a degree of restriction but as my weight was so high when i started it may have helped first few stone come off

Hiya Duchess Wobbles. I was at Nuffield in Leeds. Lovely staff, make you feel really welcome and the lads in surgery, had a laugh while waiting on the trolley. lol.

When I went for my first clinical fill, the nurse was advising that some don't lose until the 1st fill. From my own experience, I had lost about 3 stone before my 1st fill.
All the best

thanks all.

I agree about the aftercare package - it just wasnt feasable because I would have had to fly over to get them, so it would have worked out more expensive in the long run
