Which group do I choose?

Hi, I have decided to go for a gastric band but not sure which group/hospital to go with. I have read reviews from The Hospital Group but would appreciate any information. I live in Lancashire. Thanks:confused:

I chose THG as I found them very helpful in deciding what surgery to go for. They are also local to where I live, although my surgery is in Leeds! Take care. M x

I used Mr Super at the hospital group, he also works at spire and heartlands hospital, his prices vary, but at the hospital group he was £4995 with two years aftercare. Find a surgeon that you like then chose a hospital.

Hi ya, I've chose the hospital group, on basis cost, surgery availability, aftercare service and location, and having a high up NHS surgeon...

It is entirely your choice and make sure you feel comfortable :) xx

I went with healthier weight who are based in Birmingham but do surgery there, London, Manchester and Cardiff as I did not have a good initial experience with THG. I'm pleased with my choice of provider.

Thanks for the replies, I've got a consultation with Dr Li in Manchester on Wednesday under THG. Not sure how long I'll have to wait for procedure after the consultation - does anyone know?

It all depends on when you are looking to have it done.

The patient care coordinator I got called and said when are you looking and I said ASAP. I said I'm back to work on 7th April and would like to fit in before, I told her I could stretch going back till the 11th ... She then saw what consultants if any had any cancellations adjustments etc and I ended up with a more qualified surgeon in the field and getting my consultation a day earlier and Surgery 6 days later, so I'm going in next Saturday ... ? ...

If you don't mind me asking - Do you have a lot to loose???

My BMI is just 33 ... So he was happy to see me soon, but you could discuss this with Mr Li? And see his availability, or speak with the care co ordinator and say when you would ideally like it done by.

Xxx

I lost our thread from the other day!
Let's keep in touch over the weekend as we are both I the same boat as it were! Xx

My BMI is 37 and I am the same as you BandedHun, I would like to have the procedure asap due to work and fitting it in with my holidays etc. Did you have to pay a deposit when you had the consultation?

I went through THG. Had consultation and paid deposit within a few days, then booked op for 3 weeks later, they work quite quickly if you want them too. Once you have decided, it's best to get it done. I had a low BMI and did not have to do any pre op diet so could get booked up quickly.

I am private but I went straight to the surgeon saved myself £2500 I was told I was rare to do this and he wished more people came to him direct

No darling, it's literally a free trip, the patient care co ordinator rang the following day and I paid everything as I only had 5 days then to surgery. They will try their hardest to accommodate you. I just hope the aftercare is as good as they have been so far, I'm off to London clinic today for pre nurse assessment and BP. So I'll update everyone how it goes and the treatment again

Good luck - how you feeling about it all?? .

I had my consultation yesterday in Manchester and have booked in for 15th April. I would have liked to have Mr Li do the band but would have had to wait until the 24th April. I know it wouldn't have been much of a wait, but I have to fit the procedure in with my annual leave which was already booked. I work for the NHS and my shifts have to be booked well in advance. As my BMI isn't too big, I can do the milk/yogurt diet for just a week but I've decided to start cutting back my solids from 1st April.

I've been reading lots of tips regarding soluble paracetamol, chewable vitamins etc and I am so looking forward to having this opportunity to get my life back. I will keep updating my progress.

congrats on a date and good luck

Best of luck baby nurse ... I am a burnley girl originally too xxxx

Well done. How did you feel at the consultation? Have u got Mr Li or another surgeon? What company did you go for in the end?

Congrats on booking it baby nurse. I'm getting mine done tomorrow ( nervous as hell) but I'm prepared for the change.

Xx

Hi Flutterby1966 and BandedHun, my consultation went well. I saw Mr Li but having another surgeon for the op as Mr Li was booked up till 24th April and I wanted it asap. I'm going to Dolan Park and asked for the afternoon list so I can get there in plenty of time. So looking forward to it! Flutterby1966, when did you leave Burnley and where abouts did you live and work? I work at Burnley General Hospital as a midwife and live on Turf Moor estate.

Bandedhun, I hope all has gone well for you and you are posting on here.

Congratulations on your decision. Very exciting :) only a couple more days now! I used to live near walshaw and went to school at the girls high school just before it merged into Habergham. I left burnley 20ish years ago, makes me feel so old. How long have you worked at the hospital? Both my brother and sister in law are paramedics, and used to work there too. :)

Hi flutterby, I've worked at the hospital since 1999 and I do see Paramedics from time to time when they bring patients into me. Day 5 today since banding and thankfully I've turned a corner. My husband threatened to take me to Urgent Care last night as the pain in my shoulder was so bad. Feels a bit better today though and I'm avoiding soluble pain relief as it's making the wind pain worse.
