Why am I constantly having my period?

Weeks 9 post op and having my 3rd heavy period! Can't understand it. Before op I had none as I was on Cerazette(contraceptive). And each time I gain weight and feel bloated. I'm 48. Is this the menopause? I have no other symptoms or am I all messed up because of the bypass and subsequent bowel repair ops? Did this happen to anyone else after surgery?

It could possibly be due to the weight loss Sharie? Did you have regular periods before the Cerazette or did you always have issues with them?
When I came off Cerazette my periods were pretty heavy as I'd been on it for years.

Always had irregular and heavy periods before the pill. Cerazette stopped my periods completely. Now I have them back again even though I'm still on Cerazette! Don't understand it!

I hadnt had a period for 2.5 years prior to my op but came on the day after and have had a normal period every month since. I think its the weight loss and the shock to the body during surgery.. Speak to the nurse at your gp's Hope your ok x

I never had periods and I'm also on cerrezette, I came on 4 days post op and was on for over a week, not too heavy thankfully. But came on again the following month, haven't bled like that in years!! It was the worst I'd had. I literally stood up off the toilet and blood gushed out of me I've never ever done that! Had to jump into the shower after I'd cleaned the mess up.. I almost had a panic attack thinking if bleed to death (silly I know but I'd never bled so much in one instance while on my period) that lasted a week super heavy... I started my pill again 2 days after I came off and luckily fingers crossed I haven't come on yet.. Was due on yesterday... The op stresses your body out which cause you to come on.. I'd never been regular before I started the pill so never ha a date that I should be due on.. Are you taking it again, and regularly? My doctor put me on 2 tablets a day due to being overweight... Are you on one or 2? I couldn't say if it's down to menopause as I'm only 25 hope your body sorts itself out soon! Xx

Suppose it's important to remember that most wls are major operations and the body will need time to adjust. Was always regular @ 21 days . Since op has changed and periods last up to 10+ days.

Oestrogen is stored in fat cells. Fat cells emptying also releases the hormones in them. Cue super fertile times. Were alot of women getting pregnant whild doing cambridge when I was on it

I have PCOS and take cerazette. Before my bypass I never had a period. Early weeks post bypass, I bled all the time. Now, I have a period every month, regular as clockwork. Go see your GP, just to put your mind at rest. It took my body a while to settle down though.

You've put my mind at rest Paula. The only thing is I take Cerazette continuously throughout the month and thought this was supposed to stop periods completely?

It's different for everyone. My doctor didn't mention anything about it stopping periods, just take it every day. When I missed 2 periods at first I went back and she told me it's common to not having a period...

I thought it stopped them completely too. I discussed it with my GP and was informed that some women still have periods when taking cerazette :)

I was on Cerazette for a number of years after my second child and my periods still came regularly. My doc advised that it can stop them but not always.

I have been on the implant for the past 8 years. Immediately post op I bled for about two months. Before that I hadn 't had a period in 6 years. I then stopped agian for a while, but since I hit the 15s I have had more regular bleeds. The op does a lot to our hormones - I have pcos, and my hormones including testosterone have normalised.
