Had gastric bypass surgery 13 days ago and haven't lost a thing? Even though I'm averaging out at 300 calories per day as that's all i can fit it. Seems pathetic to have went through all this and still not loose weight? :(

Hunni your body has just been through a major trauma its bound to be a bit haywaire, step away from the scales for a while and just concentrate on your drinking and protein you WILL lose weight I promise just give it time xx

Loosing weight and loosing fat is not always the same thing. You can retain a surprising amount of water weight after surgery. Don't worry, it will work. WLS is a long game.

Give it a minute! You only just had surgery and yr body is trying to recover from that. I am three months post bypass as of next week and the best advise I can give is to not weigh yourself for a.good few weeks. I didn't weigh for about four three to four weeks after surgery and now only weigh every two weeks. That allows yr weight loss to even out so you don't see the week where you stay the same, you only see the weight drop. And it takes the pressure off. Try not to be impatient, just follow the teams advice and be confident that it will come off. You may also see better losses once you can step up yr calories and protein levels. I am managing between 600 to 800 calories a day now and approximately 80g protein and am down just over 3.st 8 lbs since pre op diet. It will come off, just try and chill a bit. X

Hi I am nearly four weeks out and haven't weighed myself as I am having time away from the life-long tyranny of the scales. Sam has offered you really good advice about not worrying. Also my bariatric nurse suggested that I didn't weigh myself until after at least a month as the fluctuations or stalling can cause you to get stressed - especially if other people seem to be losing a lots. We are all different and our bodies have been through a big trauma. I am waiting until my September appointment until I find out what I have lost. Please do not be hard on yourself xx

Summer as everyone else says your body has had major surgery and with that comes swelling and fluid. It took me nearly a month until this settled and before the weight finally dropped off... It is a patience game WLS ;) xx

Guess I'm just worried I'll be the first person it doesn't work on :( also find it strange as I can tolerate normal foods no pain no strange feeling or anything .... Can't help myself pinching kids left overs etc and nothing happens... Has anyone else been able to eat fine so soon ?

At less than 2 weeks out you really shouldn't be eating leftovers hun, you don't want to go through all that just to ruin or damage things!

Are you not on a liquid/puree diet for post op then? Might be worth talking to your team? All this worry and stres wont be good for you either so soon after a major operation.

Sending you best wishes, hope you feel better soon x

Please be careful, apart from the chance of stretching your new tummy, you could make yourself ill eating too early. Ring your health team, that is what they are there for, oh and get the kids to scrape their plates before you get to them! x x

Why are you pinching the leftovers? What advice are you following from your team? You got to remember that this is just a tool and you can wreck it if you go back to bad habits, you need to work with it, you need guidance from yr team. Don't mean to sound harsh but it is you who need to be in control of this.x

Think it's just weakness on my behalf as to why am eating left overs due to nearly a month off food with following pre liver diet etc. today has give me the push I need to re think how I work as It didn't go on overnight so won't come off overnight thanks for listening x

Best of luck to you, I know it cant be easy to change these habits of a lift time overnight, I'm sure there are a lot of people who struggle in the early stages. There will be people on here better placed to help you with specific guidelines, but I'm sure all of us will support you any way we can. Does your hospital have a support group you could attend? Is your team contactable so you could get some advice from them? You have come this far you should be proud of yourself! :)

In the 18 months I've waited for op I've never been able to reach the team for anything. I was also discharged from hospital without seeing dietician as she didn't work weekends? So everything I'm doing is via my own research as to what and when I can have things... Not sure of any support groups I've never heard of anything

What hospital are you under ? Maybe there is someone on here under the same that can point you in a helpful direction...

I am just over a week out, and admit to watching adverts for fast food and nigh on dribbling down my own cleavage, but as much as it looks nice, I have no 'appetite' for it. Can remember a friend of mine using the term 'food porn' and had a little of that watching Bake Off tonight, but I wasn't sat here thinking, need to make myself something to eat while watching (as I often did when watching things like Obese, a year to change my life and so on!).

Think positive, seems you are setting yourself up to fail, so if you do you are expecting it....... you are the master of this new tum, it is no longer the master of you ;) Tomorrow is a new day, back to the liquids/puree and onwards and upwards x x x

Hi summer...

I'm 4 years post op...and I can remember it like yesterday thinking this bypass won't work for me...only me!
Well I was size 26 now 12/14 sometimes 10..if I'm a lucky girl!
My advice to you is...stay away from the scales firstly, you do not need these to check your weight.
You'll find a more better measurement on your weightloss by your own clothes.
People find many times they are upset because the scales aren't moving, but you'll find when this happens you've lost inches on yourself rather than it showing on scales.
And also do not pinch anymore of your kiddies leftovers,it's dangerous.
You could get a blockage or you'll stretch your pouch and make this once in a lifetime chance a complete waste of time.
You need to follow the rules you was given when discharged...you'll get there,it's just all so strange..lol
Hope this helps x

Summer I'm going to be blunt ..you really need to get a handle on this right now. There is no point of having this op then going back to old habits. Yes you will lose in the initial months but as your body gets used to being tampered with you run the very real risk of regain. Ultimately the success of WLS is getting your head in the right place at the start and keeping it there! It is not a cure! Besides that and as everyone has quite rightly stated you are running an even bigger risk of damaging your self inside because in these first months we don't feel restriction as the nerves have been severed. The purpose of the liquid purée diet is to stop us from causing damage while they and we heal. You really should speak to your team and get yourself back on track now. Be strong and strict .. Get the kids etc to scrape their own plates out. Remove and keep away from all temptations. If it's not there you can't eat it ;)
Good luck x

Did you have a bariatric nurse who saw you in hospital? If yes, they should be there for you. I have to admit that I have been so scared of damaging my pouch that I have kept on the straight and narrow. It is hard - my first love for food is white bread and butter and this is one of the main things that I have had to give up. I tortured myself watching the bread week on Bakeoff last night - but do you know, most of it was so fancy, I thought that I don't need that anymore. But it has taken me a long time to get here. I know that you must be busy with your children, but instead of reaching for their left-overs, can you distract yourself? Have something to drink, write a message here, or make a call? We need to develop new habits and new ways of thinking. Hang on in there, you can do this x
