doesnt matter what i eat or how much of it i eat even a bite can make me burpy.

am i eating too fast or is this just my new tum settling in???

hope someone can help xx

I'm not sure what the answer is , I can only tell you that this can happen to me if I eat to fast....Try slowing down and concentrate on your chewing....Hope that helps:)

it is probably cos you are eating to fast, are you on liquids still or are you on pureed?

It still happens to me if I try to eat 'normally' and I had my bypass in March!! Try to eat more slowly, chew your food thoroughly, dont swallow anything that is in a lump, for example a piece of potato, make sure it is chewed into a pulp, sounds disgusting and it is but it is also the new way you have to eat. Don't drink whilst you are eating, wait at least half an hour and dont drink before you eat either. Hope this helps.
As I say, it still happens to me when I forget to chew and sometimes even when I do chew thoroughly it still happens. Its because you have a special new tummy!

Hi Lynn how long do you leave before you start eating after you have finished drinkng... and how long after aswell. ive had to up my fuids as i have a water infection... so have stopped drinking about 10 mins before a meal and i start again after half an hour after a meal.. is that ok?

This happens to me too and I'm still on the liquid stage, guess I better slow down with my drinking!!!

H xx

I dont drink for half an hour before or after eating, longer if possible. I dont drink during a meal. I do still occasionally get little burps though even when avoiding drinking and eating close to each other. And I do get little burps during and after a drink. I can't drink a big drink of tea so end up making a normal cuppa and drinking half of it then an hour later warming it up in the microwave and finishing it off, I can't drink as much tea if it has full milk in it, it has to be skimmed. I'm not too good at creamy stuff, it makes my tummy feel full. I drink loads of flavoured water which still gives me little burps.
I like my little burps, they remind me not to guzzle my food and drink.
You will be ok, you will soon get used to it.

hey xx thanks for all your replies x

this is my first day on soft foods :)

i leave it around 5-10 mins after drinking to eat and then 30 mins after to drink again.

thinking about it i dnt chew the death out of my food and i suppose i do eat too fast, need to adapt to eating differently, got some pasta for tea so i will try my very best and report back :)

Is pasta on your list of acceptable food at your stage.....Protein should always be eaten first , plus most hospital say that you should not drink 30mins before eating and not until 30mins after - my surgeon likes us to wait an hour after eating before having a drink

ive just read my hospital menu fo soft foods which i start tmro..and it says on my sheet do not drink 30mins before or 30 mins after...seems everybody has different guidlines, but we should stick to the guidlines we have been given i guess xx

well i ate slowly and chewed it to death and it went down fine, wind wise, there was a lot less than normal :)

sarah it says i can have overcooked pasta so alls ok :) it was a heinz mini meal, low fat lo sugar with small chunks of chicken and sweetcorn, wasnt the nicest tastin thing lol but it went down, think it was in a chicken soup sauce :-/

I still find cooked veggies give me wind, so I avoid them, but I can have salad stuff like lettuce and tomato. Main thing is eat slowly, chew well, and put your fork down and wait a while between each mouthful. You should have seen me last night taking about half an hour to eat one tiny lamb spare rib when we ate out. Hubby had gone through the entire meal and I was still picking at this tiny little rib!

lol bless you Ruthie x

by the time your half way thru its gone cold :-( o well il just have to put up with the cold food and drinks if it means next summer il be strutting around in a bikini :)

i put my tea in a flask then drink it from the little cup, that way my tea is hot and i can drink it in my own time x

Im 2 years out and have suffered from wind from the 1st day. I think its an effect of the operation combined with the fact i have no gallbladder. I take deflatins and drink loads of water. I dont dump but i do notice that food that should make me dump give me awful smelling flatulance (sorry tmi) so i guess this is my form of dumping. Exercise usually gets rid of it quickly but im a no go zone during that time LOL

lol stella, i shant come too close if you eat something norty then lol xx

ive noticed same thing as u tho, if i eat something i shudnt, i dont dump, but i get wind, sometimes slighlty painful wind, but its only burps, neva smelly wind thnk goodness lol x

ive slowed my eating right down, had spag bol for dinner today, only ate the mince as wasnt bothered about the pasta, had about 3tbsp if that and i was still chewing it after my mum nd sis who had huuuuge portions had finished! didnt get too much wind tho, so im learning :)

Last night just before midnight i had a sticky bbq chicken wing as my daughter saved me one... i was ok...(fist time ive tried one) but got to admit for a while a bit later i was a bit windy lol

A bbq chicken wing was probably the first bit of solids I had and after picking it apart carefully, eating just the meat not the skin, it was fine!
