Woohoo!! Just had a call from THG booking me in for my first fill appointment!!

4th of August at Dolan Park!

That big non-coring needle looks quite scary though!! Do they numb the area first??

On a positive note its nice that now things can really get started!

:)

Hiya

Yes, they do numb it with the cold antiseptic spray - I was really nervous, but it was all fine. I just can't look at needle!

Good luck

Justine x

well we don't have it numbed with any spray prior to a fill, they are all just put straight in..glad you'll be under way :) .

Know how u feel, my first fill is 28th July...am so excited! Just hoping they can find my port ok, have read too many stories and worried myself a little! Good luck, will let u know how I get on x

Hey thats not fair! My op was the day before yours and I have my fill on the 13th of August! :( Never mind, patience is my middle name.

My first fill is Tuesday - cannot wait x

Aww, sorry Summerband, it must be the luck of the draw. Plus I only live about 20 minutes from Dolan Park which may help a little as well.

Hope everyone gets on ok with their first fills, here's praying for the numbing spray!!! lol

I'm having a band fitted next week and I was just wondering how you all felt with regards to hunger in the weeks following the op and before your first fill...? I'm worried I will be hungry for 6 weeks am will not loose any weight until after my first full..

Hi LouLou, for me the pre-op diet was the clincher. Once I'd been doing that for 3 days I no longer felt hungry. I think that's the good side effect of going into ketosis on the liver shrinking diet and made it a lot easier than I thought it would.

Week 1 post op was ok as after the surgery I wasn't really hungry cause of the gas pain and also was a bit wary about having too much because I was scared of "disrupting" the band. lol

Week 2 has been a bit more difficult, the weight hasn't come off as easy and there have been times I've felt hungry. A large glass of water helps. I did find myself opening the fridge door and thinking to myself "shall I risk it" but then the thought of harming myself and also undoing everything I've done so far made me close the fridge door and drink more water!

I've found it really useful coming on here and reading about other peoples stories and experiences and everyone is really supportive so I know that if I'm feeling negative about things there are people on here to give me the relevant kick up the backside that I may need and can only really get from other banders. Even though most of my friends and family are really supportive, none of them actually know what its like to go through this. That's why I'm so glad I found this forum!!

So stick with us and I'm sure we'll all help you through it!! :)

iv never had a numbing spray for a fill lol but its only mildly uncomfortable so its not a worry

Hiya Lou, I'm 3 weeks post op and yes at the mo I'm soooooo hungry....however I wouldn't change a thing. It does take a bit of getting used to but the band is just a tool, I try not to rely on it too much. I think a lot of this is all about will power and after u pay out all that money the determination to not fail comes pretty easy. I keep a jug of squash in the fridge and try to drink also when I feel hungry. U might be lucky and ur surgeon might put some in band when u have ur op....wish mine had! Lol. Good luck for next week x x

That's for the replies.. I'm going in a cruise 9 weeks after my op, so was hoping to loose a little by then and also have good restriction whilst away.. Don't wanna eat like a horse whilst away.. Also I'm not doing the pre op diet so eating what I want at the mo..!! Gonna be a shock to the system..!

BMI 29.5 at consultation.. Been higher thou, they said if I lost any weight I wouldn't qualify. So mo diet..

Oh wow, wish my bmi was 29! Lol x x

Oh I'm sure it will be soon enough, the highest I have been is bmi 33... Weights about 14 stone, I currently weigh about 12, which although compared to some may seem small, in the eyes of the world health organisation is it obese.. Most people have discouraged me from surgery and told me to hit the gym instead.. But as we all know loosing the wait ain't always the problem it's keeping it off.. I am sick to dealth of my life long struggle with food and my weight.. Both r always on my mind..! I am forever feeling fat..!

I do feel our tolerance to obesity has changed over the years, due to so many people being overweight and obese we see them as normal, and those in a healthy weight range look skinny to us..
I just want to feel normal and contented, at whatever weight that may be... It's not just about vanity (always plays a small part surly) it's about being content and happy in ones own skin..

Hope you have a lovely cruise where you off to?

Just be aware I was with THG and had post op 2 weeks liquid, 2 weeks mush so not sure if you will be able to enjoy the food so much : - (

CHeck with your providor though they are all different x

ignore me, you said 9 weeks, thought it was 9 days!

Heat going to my head, you will deffo lose and have a lovely time feeling better x

Yer 9-10 weeks, going with royal caribean 12 night canaries with hubby and three kids, looking forward to NOT wanting to spent the whole time eating.. And then living to regret it in our return.. just spoke with my provider who tells me that I may have two fills by then and Defo thinks I should have lost some weight.. Don't know weather I should get some size smaller in the summer sales. :) so excited..
