20-stone grandmother dies days after having gastric bypass operation

thanks for posting this thread blue eyes - i would never had read it otherwise because i dont buy papers n that!
its not often there is a death is there unless severe mitigating circumstances, lol wow! that was a big word for me, haha!
so these stories do need to be brought to attention so that people realise thing can and do go wrong and this is the risk your taking! allthough it doesnt happen often does it and the more n more surgeries they are performing i recon the risk will get less too as the surgeons are more experianced! xxx

Awww Bless you Keeley... it's a very difficult and concerning topic which fortunately, we don't hear very often.... but when something does go wrong, it still really affects me post op too... but I'd rather be aware of the whole picture and the fact that the majority do get there lives back post surgery... this is certainly not the easy way out, but for me, it was my only way out...

It always helps to question everything including risks, anyone feeling in doubt should always try and explore all avenues pre surgery...

As I said earlier... I am so glad I have had this surgery and am feeling enormous benefits so far... and it's been the very best thing I have done for myself in many years.

Love and hugs all Angels xxx

and i hope and prey that i follow a similar path to you bev... youve come far in just a short space of time, well done! xxx

Oh my Goodness Keeley. I could not have done it without you and my lovely friends who have carried me through on here... there has been some tremendous support and we have shared all sorts of conversations, negative, positive, honesty, sadness, joy, it's all part of this journey...

All I can say is that at this time last year I was bordering twenty stones... I'm now bordering sixteen stones and feeling so much better.

Always here for everyone and anyone and we learn together along the way... it's one heck of a journey and I learn something new each day.

Love you all... and I would surely have my surgery again tomorrow and I'm feeling good.

Thinking of everyone

You havn't upset me Keeley, I just feel I need to defend them. If I didn't and therefore accepted they were to blame I would not be able to go there for my op.

A perforation was found and treated, the coroner said the surgeon could not have known about the others, I assume as they were so small. Does not alter the heartache the family must have felt though.

Anyway I promise I won't say any more on the subject.

lol - i understand luv and do ya know what..... you will be absolutely fine - because like you said - hospitals have to be soooo carefull these days dont they with all the rules and regulations so i can imagine there was a big thorough investigation at the time... is that surgeon still at that hospital then? glad you havent got him!

Oh that is awful, it just brings it home how dangerous the operation can be and it's not just the easy way out as most people think. God bless her and her family, Karen x

Yes, he's still there and has a huge following that love him. He was there from the start of the bariatric department in 2004, so been doing it a long time now.

I really feel for the family and friends of the poor lady and really hope they can get some sort of closure so they can grieve properly.

My op is only seven weeks away, so I am trying really hard to stay positive!

youll be fine hun im sure of it - you have a look at some of the before and after pics hun and everytime you start feeling negative about it you take a look at there pics - 7 weeks isnt long - youll soon be on that road to slimdom! lol theres 10000,s of people in and out of this forum and how any of them are regretting it? even the ones that have had major complications still dont regret it and are still glad they had it done after all the problems theyve been through!

This lady is the ex mother-in-law of my best friend, and the reason its in the paper now is that it was the inquest into her death this week

makes you wonder why that surgeon is still there though doesnt it? surely they would have investigated straight away?
