so,
the specialist nurse finally rang me back - so I explained every time I have a Fortimel or Slimfast drink I end up on the loo.
She did not explain 'dumping' gladly I learnt this term from the support from you guys.

But she has decided that I am intolerant to milk, I knew that before, but never had it formally diagnosed.

I cant drink a pint of skimmed milk a day it would kill me, so she has suggested freezing it in ice cubes and eating it like ice cream... the thought of that fills me with dread.
'Without protein you wont heal Mitzi!!'

Thanks!!!

did or has anyone else encountered the same?
How am I gona get a pint of milk in a day when I dont like milk??? :wave_cry:

Darling, don't panic! I was milk intolerant immediately post-op. First, try lacto-free milk. Easily obtained from the supermarket. If that's no good, try rice or soya milk. You can also get soya yoghurts and lacto-free cheese.
I hope that helps. Lacto-free milk was fine for me.

I think a few people were lactose intollerant post op and they had lactose free milk like Charis suggested. You will be fine with that Im sure without having yoghurts too :D XX

I still cant eat yogurts or drink large amount of milk. I can manage a small amount in tea's, but not for breakfast cereals. Very strange, but certainly not uncommon after bypass. x

hi Charis

i will try that, my sisters coming over soon so will send her out for some. I cant eat yougharts thou can I on fluids only?

Thanks for the advice.

Can't you have watered down sieved yoghurt? I didn't do a fluids only diet, Sunderland put us straight onto purees. I hope the lacto-free milk helps pet.

I was about 10 months post op and developed this. I switched to lacto free, soya, rice and goats milk. All were fie, and after about 3 months Im back on cows milk x

Im not sure about being lactose intolerant, but i definately dumped on Fortimel and slimfast post op, i can drink milk but it cannot be sweetened in any way......

hope you find a way to get your protein in, im sure you will! x

I had lactose free milk when i became lactose intolerant following surgery. You will be pleased to know about 5 weeks after discovering i was lactose intolerant i was constipated so thought i'd test to see if i had lost the intolerance. Either way win win situ as if i wasn't i could use same milk as the rest of the tribe, if i was then i wouldn't be constipated :) I won, no more lactose intolerance xx
