Hi

I have my surgery soon 9th December :) I thought it would be nice to get some of the following from all you lovely people wether pre or post op.

Top tips
Any advice
Words of wisdom
Best bits
Worst bits.

Thanks all xx

Amy when you get measured for your stockings insist they give you short ones otherwise they roll down and kill your legs.

Take your measurements pre op, I didnt and wish I had now :(

Thanks for that I wasn't going to bother but makes sense then at least if the scales don't show I can check when inches I've lost x

I'm definitely going to make sure I ask them I can think of nothing worse I hate been even the slightest uncomfortable x

Take windeze, eye mask and ear plugs into hospital, trust me, you will need all three. x

Lol was the snoring that bad !!!! I'm going to add them to my list I've heard that wind is bad after the op ? Hopefully it won't be x

a nice warm blankie its bleeding cold on b26!

It's added to my list along with the hot water bottle lol x

I just asked for 2 extra blankets, it's not just the snoring, the nurses talk at the same volume day or night, they put lights on and off, other people whispering loudly, or groaning!! Trust me, hospitals are noisy places!

I wish someone would have told me about the stockings....make sure the hospital people get you the short ones.....my ones were long and end up rolling down, it did more damage than good. I bet you must so excited, Good luck!!!;)

Plenty of things to read, do that don't require a lot of focus as you'll be bored but to out of it on the after effects of the anaesetic to focus on much for long.

If you're planning a holiday abroad keep the stockings they will only be thrown away when you leave. I was flying less than 5 wks post op & only to Spain but so soon after surgery thought would be a good idea to use them then wore them both ways & no problems, probably wouldn't have been anyway but I'm a belt & braces mentality better safe than sorry. Lol

I am getting the jitters now thats for posting this amy intresting to know, the only thing u have to remember is to come and see me lol only joking babe xx

Things I found invaluable:

Earplugs, eyemask, MP3 player loaded with tranquility/spa type music (great for when you can't sleep), my own pillow! Didn't read a book but did look at magazines.

A tip for when you get home - I couldn't lie flat for a few days and found pillows slipped but if I put some under the mattress it helped to lift it in a way that stayed up.

Good luck, it will be so worth it:)

Defo ear plugs and eye mask. If I could only take two items it would be them.

Essential items!?!?! ;-)

£15 for the 3 day tv package. I had books and mags but found I couldn't focus on reading. my own bottled water (they ran out of water jugs!) and found drinking easier from a bottle other than a cup

.... oh and I wish I had taken some OAP repellant! may have prevented the confused old lady in the opposite bed trying to get into bed with me during the night!!!! .... and who says thoses stockings aren't sexy!! ;-)
