Always hungry

Has anyone else had days when they can seem to fill themselves. I had this before surgery when I wasn't watching what I was doing and eating and that is how I ballooned. Over the last few days even after surgery I'm starting to get this again. I don't know what is wrong with me? I'm only 4 weeks post op and I'm paranoid about gaining weight. Has anyone else had this?

I don't think I am physically hungry but I am seriously struggling with head hunger at the moment :(

Are you eating lots of protein?
When I eat a lot of protein I find that it feels me up for longer periods.
I do get days when I can eat more than others, and I know that I have to watch myself as like you, I have a fear of regaining.
Some days I fall into bad habits of overeating due to feeling emotional. If you feel hungry then try and eat the good foods rather than the naughty ones :)
I found this info to be very helpful:

HEAD HUNGER VS PHYSICAL HUNGER;

HEAD HUNGER:

Comes on quickly, suddenly; you realize how much you want to eat

No physical signs (though we desperately search for them --
was that a stomach growl or just gas?)

Strong, intense urge

Often paired with strong emotions, places, situations or activities

Often involves desire or craving for a specific food

Unable to recognize fullness easily

PHYSICAL HUNGER:

Comes on gradually, intensifies as caloric tank gets depleted

Physical signs include stomach growling, gnawing, empty feeling that may escalate to light-headedness
and lack of energy

Would like to eat
but not desperate

Not linked to emotions,
places, situations or activities

Desire for food is not necessarily for one specific kind

Stop when physically full

I hope that this helps you :D

I have two reasons for eating quite a lot - even after VSG - head hunger and during the week I have my period I can't stop eating. The second one does not apply to you but hormones play a big part in the hunger sensation. I keep a diary of my hunger level. I'm fine most weeks but the week of or the week before my period I'm very hungry. Did not realise this until I kept a diary. Give it a try and see if there is a pattern to your hunger levels.

Yeah that could be it? I'm not sure! I've yet started my soft food phase today I'm still only eating small as you would expect. I have been slowly increasing my portion size through out the last three weeks and I'm up to about 75g of food as a meal which is equal to about 4-5 tbsp, or normal size pot of yogurt and feel full for an hour or so then I hungry again. I'm confused and worried. And my weight has stuck again although I haven't thankfully gained anything.

Yes it does thank you. Mmm with me being on the purée diet, although the recipes I used were based balanced diet. Thinking about it I don't think they that high in protein. The difficulty I'm having is knowing how much to put on my plate for a meal. Like what has been mentioned it's a psychological battle. The only thing I can think that is high in protein is fish. While I'm at this stage of the diet

I would have slow cooked casseroles and minced beef - if you can mash it with a fork its usually okay.

Fading Grace's definition of head head is right, it's so hard though! I just want mash, cheese and beans constantly at the mo!! x

I have found baked beans a bit of a problem to eat, not sure if it's because I have had them with fish cakes and I'm full from the fish cake. I'm glad cravings haven't really affected me much. Although I have craved bread once or twice and I used to eat bread every day prior to my op. But because of the nice weather we have had recently I have craved alcohol but I have stayed strong and not had a drop. And I don't know how my stomach would react to the alcohol of any type

Well done for not having the alcohol :) I wasn't much of a drinker before the surgery - apart from special occasions. I'm a carb craver lol :)

Another thing other than head hunger could be thirst, are you keeping your fluids up? Lots of people find it hard to differentiate between thirst and hunger, maybe you could try a hot drink like bovril as an between meal drink? X

What a perfect explanation!!! Thank you so much for posting this, you have no idea how helpful it is :D

Yeah I'm really pushing the fluids because I've suffering with constipation a bit. Sorry probably too much info lol. Now since posting that about being hungry yesterday, today has been the reverse. What is wrong with me lol.

Keep at it though, at least you are recognising your feelings. You are doing really well x
