Am I right to ask for this at my doctors? CAN SOMEONE HELP x

emma-louise

my new life!!
Today I'm feeling quite unwell and to be honest desperate!
Currently I'm classed as anaemic,as well as having other vitamin definencys.
This is helped by doctor prescribing increased dose of vitamins.
But the last few weeks I'm getting a bit worried as I'm dropping of to sleep all the time.
My muscles hurt,my arms and legs are aching/hurting and ive just no energy.
My moods are snappy,I'm crying and just feel terrible.
Now..the doctor knows I suffer heavy monthlys so this has an effect on my anemia too.
Knowing all this I'm wondering why I haven't been offered a b12 injection?
And should I have had one by now?will it help me feel better?
I'm 16 mths post op,and the way I feel at the minute!I want someone just to help me.
Should I demand an injection?
Please can someone help xx

It does sound like you need one, I'm 5 months post op and also have the symptoms you describe. I can have a full 10 hours sleep and still wake up tired and also arms and legs feel very heavy and getting more migraines, generally feel like poop. I have got my doctor to let me have a blood test to check levels as people from Rakelane don't get one until a year post op which I think is too long. Have you had a recent blood test for b12 ? Hope you get it sorted soon x

Hi,
I've had my bloods checked all the time, but not once has b12 been mentioned.
Is b12 needed when being anemic I'm not sure.
I feel just desperate I can't carry on feeling like this x

I was told that I would have to have a b12 injection every three months after the op.

I'm not sure what is advised regarding this shot,I had my operation under dr ammori, anyone else Under the care of this doctor and knows the answer?

I had my op with Mr Ammori - my discharge letter - copied to my GP - said I would need regular vitamin B injections. I had my first one yesterday at my GPs.

It might be a vitamin D deficiency. All the symptoms you describe are what I'm like, when my vit d is low.

Ah right,to be honest I'm fed up of my bloods being taken and I'm still feeling no benefit.
I'm starting to wonder if I need to go to a private doctor.

Thanks for replying,
So dr ammori says we need them regardless?
As I'm going to my docs tommorow hopefully if I can get in,and wanted to be armed with info.
I wish I had a copy of my hospital notes to say what meds we need.

Your consultant should have sent a discharge summary to your GP, along with a TTO listing all the medication you were discharged with. On your discharge summary it should say what medication your likely to need. Ask you GP if he's received this information when you see him tomorrow. Hope this helps a little :)

Weeble, I see that you had to have two x pre-op diets, do you mind if I ask why?? was it because you did not loose enough weight the first time round?

Just found some notes,as I'm 16 mths post op,I wasn't sure if I'd kept any.
I'm taking all the meds it say on the discharge note.
But it only mentions b12 shot if you need it??
And I only know I'm anemic,so I wonder if they'll offer it.
I'm lost

I have just found a copy of discharge note,
But mine doesn't mention we must have b12,...only if needed.
And I was Under ammori too

I had VitB12 4 weeks after surgery then have it every 3 months. I feel tired, short of breath and run down a couple of weeks before I need injection.

I had my op at Sunderland; I had my first b12 injection at about 5-6 weeks post op and I was told I had to have it every 3-4 months for the rest oft life. Every hospital must have different guidelines :/

I don't understand at all,
Its totally stupid,we have had the same operation, why so different guidelines.
Even my fingers are aching while I'm tying this,
I feel so run down

I think everyone who has a bypass should be on b12 injections. Because your body isn't able to obtain and break down b12 from food, due to the lack of hydrochloride acid in the new pouch. Really low levels of b12 can cause pernicious anaemia, which can be life threatening.
