Im thinking of doing the milk diet to kick start me again, can someone please tell me how much milk per day please?
Hi Vicky, apologies for the delay. This is the Milk Diet I had to do, but it isn't just Milk as you can see. It worked wonders for me, but we are all different. Hope this helps.

Pre-Op Preparation and as it’s termed the dreaded Milk Diet.
Before you can have Laparoscopic Surgery you need to assist the Surgeon in preparing yourself for Surgery.
The following is taken from an NHS Handout I was given.
This diet is designed with high protein, low fat and low carbohydrate in mind. It is
NOT optional and must be followed for three weeks prior to my procedure.
Following this special pre-op diet greatly increases the chance of your surgery being performed laparoscopically (by Keyhole) because it shrinks and softens the liver by forcing your body to burn off stores of energy (glycogen) that are held in the liver.
Why does my liver need to shrink?
For Bariatric Surgery to be performed laparoscopically, an instrument called a liver retractor is used to lift the liver so that the surgeon can access the stomach area and the tissue that lies beneath it. If the liver is heavy, fatty and immobile, the surgery can be very difficult to do, as it is hard for the surgeon to access the stomach area and to perform the procedure. This can be a reason why the operation has to be converted to an
OPEN procedure. An open procedure has a larger scar area, recovery can take longer and the risks are higher. Furthermore, it is a technically difficult operation, in which the surgeon has to struggle with poor views and a large liver, which may be more prone to serious complications such as bleeding and leakage.
By following this diet carefully, you can lose weight prior to surgery, but the most important thing is that you will increase your chances of a safe keyhole operation and a smooth recovery afterwards.
Special note for Patients with Diabetes.
If you have diabetes and are being treated with insulin please contact your Diabetes Specialist Nurse, Practice Nurse or GP before starting this pre-operative diet for advice on Insulin Adjustment.
What will happen if I do not stick to this plan?
Your Procedure may have to be converted to open surgery (this applies mainly to Patients undergoing gastric bypass or duodenal switch procedures). Apart from a large wound you will need to be admitted to the High Dependency Unit post-operatively and your hospital stay will be extended.
Your procedure may take much longer therefore increasing your anaesthetic risks.
Should your procedure take longer than anticipated it may mean that another patient on the list for that day could have their operation cancelled as there may not be enough Theatre time left.
The Diet.
Each days Menu consists of:
2 t0 3 pints of semi-skimmed milk (or skimmed if preferred) per day.
2 diet or low fat yoghurts.
2 portions of fruit e.g. one portion is 1 apple, 1 banana, 2 plums or clementine’s (small fruits), a handful of berries or grapes.
2 to 3 portions of vegetables – this can include stir fry with low calorie spray oil, vegetable soups (no potato) or a salad.
Sugar free Jelly.
Tea or Coffee, Water, low calorie drinks such as No Sugar varieties, no alcohol.
For 3 weeks immediately prior to your operation date.
Note: It is advised that while you are following this 3 week plan that you take a multivitamin and mineral, if you choose a chewable form this can also be used initially after surgery as well (i.e. Chewable Centrum Complete, Bassets Multivitamin and Mineral, or Principle Healthcare Multivitamin and Mineral)
End of Extract
