So 2 weeks post op and on puréed stage any ideas on what too am allowed got to the point were I am regretting having surgery is this normal just been so down been skipping breakfast and lunch can't get enough fluid just had enough I thought having it I would feel better but I don't is this just a phase before lsd I was 22.10. I am now 20.8 but I just feel so rubbishy help

Hi x

Sorry I have no advice on puréed foods really but I just wanted to say I completely understand how you feel.

I was banded two weeks ago and have had a few down says this week. I think it's due to lack of calories, even though I am constantly having some type of fluid. I am struggling with not being able to have anything I want. The pain and not being able to get on top of housework etc and rushing back to work.

I think as you start to introduce normal foods again you will start to feel more in control and that will help x that's what I am hoping, I don't feel in control at the moment and this was the main reason I did this, to be in control of what I eat x

Hope someone is able to help you with the puréed question x

Also if you are not managing to have breakfast and lunch that will have a major impact on your moods as well hon x are you able to keep liquids down ok?

Awe, you have lost 2 stone and thats fantastic. I had MGB, and hated the puree phase, every mouthful tastes the same, but it was only 2 weeks for me. I am from the north and we have potato hash which is basically, mince beef, onions, boil up with oxo, add sliced carrots, then diced potatos, cook til potatos are soft and a good squeeze of brown sauce in is good spice too, this tasted the best blitzed with the stick blender of everything I ate, I also zapped casseroles done in slow cooker, made haddock chowder, and if you like fish, get frozen fish in parsley sauce, zap that.
My surgery was in Belgium, and the surgeon tells you to have Dutch biscuits, crispbakes from sainsburys are OK, and you can put low fat cheese spread (the seriously strong one is nice) asda do 70% reduced fat philadelphia style own brand cheese, you can have that as well as smoked mackerel or salmon pate, gets the protein in, I also found high protein soups in asda, 20g protein a serving, might be too much in a carton but you could split. My surgeon also suggests b/fast, lunch and evening meal with snacks in between. I ate 100g of the skyr high protein yoghurts, to get the protein in.
Hope this helps and it's weird as you aren't hungry, you have to remember to eat to heal your body. I didn't always manage the snacks and many days no where near enough liquids, but keep trying.
I think if you get the food in, you might feel a bit better
I had a poached salmon steak last night and asparagus, I cannot tell you how nice it tasted and I was full. There's light at the end of the tunnel and if you don't eat the meals, the metabolism will slow right down and weight loss too,
Hope you feel better and good luck xx

I did what trendy wendy did , just blitzed up shepards pie, fish pie and spahetti bolgense sauces then blended veg im sure there is a section on recipes for each stage post op
I wish you luck

How are you doing today? Are you finding things any easier? How are you doing with water intake?

I'm due to have a bypass with Mr Byrne before Xmas what day of the week was your pre op? And is it just Thursday he does Nhs?

Sarah - rather than recipes for puree you really just need to think of recipes for food you like and then puree it. It's Autumn and that is always slow cooker season for me (plus slow cookers are the best things ever for people without the time or inclination to do a lot of cooking!). You can pick one up for about £20, pop everything in to it in the morning and it's done by the evening. Great for making home-made soups.

Anyway, this is one recipe I do that has a double whammy of protein from lentils and chicken:

Red Lentil & Chicken Curry with Spinach

- 100 grams of dried red lentils
- 2 chicken breasts
- 2 veg stock cubes in a litre of hot water
- 1 diced onion
- 2 cloves of garlic minced
- 1 tablespoon of Madras curry paste (though you can use any curry paste you like)
- 200g bag of spinach

Lightly fry the onion and garlic until soft, add in the curry paste and stir for 2 minutes. Add the chicken breasts cubed up and then add the lentils and give a quick stir. Now add enough veg stock to cover the lentils and let them simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally as they'll suck up the stock and start sticking. Keep adding the stock from time to time as the lentils suck up stock at get soft. When they're soft and you have a good sauce consistency, tip in the bag of spinach and stir it in until that too is soft. Serve to family and puree your bit - as it's got lentils in there's no need for rice.

Oh excited to here I can have curry after I was a little worried

Have you been given food guidelines by the hospital or your provider? The purée stage is about texture - you can eat normal meals like stews etc but it's the consistency that counts. You'll need to blend it until it's sloppy with no bits.

I'm with Mr Byrne at Spire too. I haven't done pre op bits yet waiting for a date

My surgeon suggests avoiding spicy food early on
But made slimming world chicken dhansak last night
It was delicious the rogan josh with tender diced lamb with fage n mint sauce mixed in is good too

How are you feeling Sarah?

I'm getting there still can't quite get enough liquid I think puréed is actually getting harder plus weight lose has stalled but I have been having the little ice pops to keep me going I look at the puréed and it makes me feel so sick at the moment even the dissolvable med that they give me make me chuck it up but before pre op I was 22.10 I am now 20.3 not a lot but getting some were my family keep saying that they can see a diff but I can't x

You sound like your a little more settled than the other day. Is it just water ice pops your having? As that's a fab idea I hadn't thought of it. Keep going you are doing amazing! Sounds like you have a lot of caring family around you who are being positive. I think that when my clothes get looser I will be at a stage when I may tell people about pending bypass as I don want any negative "just diet" comments before. Keep me up to date how your getting on, X X X

Feel a little better and shop brought ones so when I don't feel like a meal just have one of those plus they take sick feeling away I will keep u posted good luck with your journey Hun x
