Fame at last!!!! I have had an article done on me, my weight problem and decision to have gastric bypass in this week Womans magazine. When I was asked, I was happy to do it because I really am very enthusiastic about getting the message out that being overweight/obese/fat is attributed to a whole variety of reasons. For me in particular and many alike it was genetics, carb addiction, compulsive and emotional eating and I might as well be honest I do love food, all sorts of food. I feel very passionately about dispelling the myths that all 'fat' people are lazy, good for nothing, sloth like, greedy people. We have an addiction, an illness in the same way heroine addicts or alcoholics do. They get better support, funding help and sympathy from the medical profession and the media because its openly recognised they need specialist help. We have an eating disorder in the same way anorexic or bulemic patients do, and whilst their illness is very sad they so far get a hell of a lot more sympathy and efforts to treat them than us overeaters do. I truly feel that being fat is the only remaining minority group (although there are plenty of us) who can still be openly ridiculed and abused. People wouldnt dream of publicly making fun of a black/Asian/blind/disabled/gay/old/skinny/bald etc.... person but hey see a person who is overweight and the laughs, sniggers, comments are a plenty.
Right I've had my rant!!!
