Avoiding Vomiting After Band?

Has anyone managed to not vomit at any time after getting the band? I am almost phobic about vomit and can't bear the thought of it occuring once, let alone on a regular basis!!!

I have never been sick from eating post band but I have through illness.

I have been extra careful to avoid being sick from food for the same reason as you!

I used to be sick regularly after I had my band when I didn't chew enough or something got stuck. However, as a person who also has a phobia about vomiting I want to assure you that it is nothing like the regular vomiting that you get when you are ill. You get the pain and start burping and salivating a lot and then you just find the offending food pops back up again without all the feelings of sickness that you would normally get. It is called "productive burping" or "sliming" so don't worry about it - it is not at all the same. Luckily I never actually felt sick and vomited with the band as it could in cases of violent vomiting cause problems sometimes.

If you take bites the size of a pencil rubber and chew each mouthful to death and take your time between mouthfulls then you should have little problem.

Good luck :)

I have been sick a few times post band (due to band too tight at one stage) and am also terrified of being sick but as Josiegirl said it's a completely different feeling and comes more from chest area than stomach to it's just the food you just swallowed and not the nasty bile stuff from your stomach you normally get.

I dont vomit through my band either, only when unwell etc. Just follow the rules and take ur time and dont rush ur meals. and u be fine xxx

the majority of banders will vomit at some point the ones that dont are lucky, if and when it does happen its through not knowing how to eat after the fill process begins x

Ironic thread having had this happen to me on a strawberry today...guess who forgot to chew it to mush at work..oh and who forgot they were on liquids too following fill..talk about dizzy brain today. My delegates I were training at the time wondered what was up!!!

Hi guys, I was just Reading through this thread....I am not having my first fill til January but am starting to worry about the being sick thing too.... I work on the radio and so it's pretty impossibly for me to run off and leave the channel abandoned. When you're sick through food getting stuck do you know it's coming and do you have time to get yourself to the toilet and almost choose when to sick the food up or does it just come on all of the sudden. I'm wondering whether to get some sick bags! (urgh) lol xx

For me, it depends how much food is stuck. I can sit with food stuck for 30 minutes or more that doesn't come back up by itself and won't go down so I eventually have to make myself sick. My only advice is until you know your band and what it reacts to after a fill is not to eat when you're on the radio or stick to soups or a protein shake.

I'd echo that...I now don't eat whilst training..just in case!!!!

Just play safe at work with the yogs/shakes etc for now. I'm training from 9 til 4 usually n find a shake keeps me going then try stuff at evenings n weekends where you can regurgitate in peace lol :)

Haha! Such a lovely thought!
Well I'm still on the soft foods at the moment anyway but I don't go back to work for another week.
I'm not having my first fill til January but just trying to prepare myself for what's to come.
Has anyone been sick before having the fill as I don't feel any different at the moment. Can eat a fair amount and don't feel sick at all but I suppose that's all to come. Xx

No I had a clear run and could eat a fair bit until I had my first fill this month x

Did you notice a massive difference once you had your fill then? It's hard to think what it's going to be like! Xx

I had some restriction with my first fill and had to be careful but I've had my second fill now and I have to really watch what I eat, what time of day it is, how much I chew and how big my mouthfuls are!

I'm really looking forward to my first fill (although I have to wait til January! Boo).
I hope u don't lose my motivation by then. Xx

I've been same, noticed some difference but looking forward to 2nd fill next Monday...hoping I will start to proper grain train myself then :) xx
