Awful weightloss journey...

I think that Mazda may have taken some action in response to previous postings, and there is some disgruntlement about this

I gathered that...just haven't seen the content of these postings...the comment about "long termers" just caught my eye! :)

mazza i have been trying somehow to make contact with you regarding your sanction on me, i feel that you were out of order because if you had taken the time to read my thread, i mean my thread then you would have seen that i was the one attacked first, how dare you do what you did without taking action against the others, this forum is for the few long termers with scant regard to others, i feel you and all moderators associated with this forum stop behaving as you do as you are the reason that all these people are leaving, sorry to all the nice people on here for hacking into this thread just needed to tell mazza to get off the high horse

I'm not sure what you mean by the above comment? You have been a member here for a very short time so how is it you feel qualified to comment on membership stats etc.

Also, as a moderator I have the 'dubious' pleasure of seeing everything that goes on in the forum, with all due respect you do not.

If you think my actions are unfair please feel free to refer to the rules again, I believe its no. 17?

Oh Bonita :(

I hope all improves and goes well for you.

Is your hypoglycaemia "reactive"? My wife developed it after a bypass and it was awful. It is finally only under control because she is on meds for it (Acarbose I think). Have you seen an endocrinologist about it?

Yes it was. That was pretty rough because back then there was little known about it (well not as much as now). I had one day in particular when I'd been tidying out the shed, an hour later I was in A&E with a very low blood sugar reading feeling dreadfully ill. Then I was told to carry Glucose tablets with me all the time but of course now I know all that did was give me sugar spikes and I crashed even lower the next time. Obviously as I have two fully functioning stomachs now with no restriction whatsoever I don't suffer it anymore. If it comes back after this forthcoming revision thankfully I now know what to do.

Hope your wife is doing well now x

How rude are you? I'm sure there are other ways of dealing with your problems other than hijacking somebodies thread like this.

Ok update on things.

My surgeon has finally decided she is going to fix my problems on the 17th Sept and I'm absolutely bricking it. I've thought I might keep this thread going as a sort of blog as it might help others understand that this surgery can and does go wrong. If its ok with admin I will be uploading pictures of things that have happened in the past, some of them are a bit gruesome, and also pictures of my original weight, subsequent weight loss then the massive weight gain, followed by pictures of how I get on in the future should everything go ok this time.

The reason its taken my surgeon so long to get me a date is because I'm told it will be an all day job in theatre also she is filming the procedure and writing a paper on it. She is going to re-do the bypass, sort out my twisted bowel and re-do the stent in my liver. On top of that she is going to remove as much of the adhesions from previous surgery as she can. At the moment she is saying that she is going to try as hard as she can to do it keyhole because of the mess my stomach is already in but I am aware that there is a very high likelihood that she will have to revert to open again.

Anyway that's where I am at right now..

The Hernia repair will be done at a later date once the weight is off again along with a promise of a TT at the same time.

So sick of surgery and absolutely sick of my life being on hold. We are desperately wanting to move abroad to live (we have a substantial villa in southern Spain) but that's not likely to happen for at least another 12 months if at all by the look of things.

My current partner proposed whilst we were in Malta recently, I was lovely and slim when I met him and although I know he loves me for who I am, I want to be slim again before we get wed for him as well as myself.

Thank you for sharing your experiences Bonita it is indeed helpful for others to see that journeys are not always smooth. I sincerely hope your upcoming corrective surgery is successful in sorting out all these issues. You are one brave lady.

Congratulations on the engagement, lovely news :). Cant blame you for wanting to be fab on your wedding day, I am sure you will be.

Well what a week. Today is the first day of this LSD so just had my first pint of milk. It's not like I've not been here before but already I'm fighting the urge to put some toast under the grill...lol

Now to bad admin these hospitals all seem to suffer from, I thought Walsall Manor were the worst but this has really made me laugh.

This might make you feel a bit queasy but I'm going to share it because it is happening. Since having my Gall Bladder out I have been having a problem with sickness in the morning and the runs, both of which are bright yellow. I'm told it's the bile from my Liver pouring into my pouch through the Fistula from my main stomach and that my liver may be having problems so before the revision it would be wise to have a liver scan.

Ok so far, problem is my main operation is on the 17th of Sept and the appointment came through for the 25th of Sept. Derrr what bit of pre-op didn't they understand? So rang them and accepted a cancellation on the 12th, didn't dawn on me that the 12th was not only a Sat but also my partners big 60 birthday and I'd already booked a weekend away... So I'm ringing to change yet again, this time it's this Sunday I'm set up for, not ideal because we are supposed to be organising a charity road run with the MG club but needs must and all that (outpatient scans on a Sunday :-/).

Ok liver scan sorted, now for the pre-op examination. Those that have had it will know that it has to be done at least two weeks pre-op because of the MRSA checks, so after receiving my admission letter I ring to arrange the pre-op. Brilliant, the only appointment they have is on the 16th... Excuse me that's the day before my operation.

Ring the surgeons secretary to ask what to do to be told they may have to re-arrange the operation date because it can't be done without this MRSA check.

Now I'm getting pretty mad about all this, so I get to talk to my surgeon, she's not happy as this is a big op that's taken a lot for her to get together, ie, film crew, theatre clear for a full day and a special anaesthetist because of my being allergic to it. Anyway after a fair bit of trying to contact various people (nobody ever answers the phone) it's now arranged that I go today just for the MRSA tests and again on the 16th for the bloods, blood pressure, height, weight ect and still admitted on the 17th.

Right now that's off my chest I'm off to enjoy my pint of skimmed milk... Lol

What a farce, I work for the NHS so I know how long winded and difficult things can be

Hello Bonita, I've just read your thread and wanted to offer you my warmest wishes that everything gets sorted out for you, talk about being put through the wringer!!

Oh my life! Why is nothing ever simple?! As if you haven't been through enough already. I hope the rest all goes to plan.xx

This is all getting a bit silly now, had my scan date changed yet again and ended up going yesterday (on a sunday).. To say I was furious was an understatement for two reasons.

I get there early and am shown straight in, that's a first for our hospital so when I joked abut it I was told that I was the only person that had actually turned up for my appointment that day.. What!!! It's extremely maddening knowing that people are struggling to get life saving appointments whilst so many others just don't care enough to even turn up.. Rant over on that score..lol

Anyway get to meet the doctor that was doing the scan, really nice guy but he wasn't happy and neither was I because he couldn't understand why 'in his words' somebody that has had that much intricate surgery was sent for ultra sound not CT as he couldn't make out a thing that was going on inside, couldn't even see my liver.

He went through in length all the various letters and correspondence that had gone on between the various specialists with me though and now thanks to him I have a far better understanding as to what's actually happening inside. I mentioned the pains I'm getting in strange places which he said is because I have so much bile running round my system and seeping through these fistula's (there are five in total) that everything is burning through the bile. My bowels and gut are both reacting to it hence the runs and sickness. He went on to tell me that the previous MRI scans and other tests have shown that of the five fistula's I have one of them is quite big, the reason for that is the original staples used in the first bypass have either moved, are leaking or as in the case of the biggest fistula has dropped out altogether. He said that the likely cause was the NAIDS (Painkillers) I'd been taking for years causing ulcers around the staples and displacing them.

The surgeons told me none of this, they just said I had fistula's and effectively two functioning stomachs but didn't explain why and what had happened. I must be thick anyway because I didn't even know that I had staples in my stomach that should be there for life (don't know what I thought they had done to me..lol).

Anyway he said that he was contacting the team this morning and making sure they knew I needed a CT or MRI before my op next week, which he duly did and rang me an hour ago to tell me he'd booked an MRI on Monday and was doing it himself because he's intrigued himself by what's going on and would like to see it through with Miss Rotundo if I'm ok with it. Of course I am, I'm grateful to him for spending the time with me.

So that's that with regards to scan's at the moment but I've also just got off the phone with my surgeons secretary and waiting for her to ring me back. I'm having hell with this milk diet, I'm already dying with all this bile and acid but all this milk is just making it worse, I'm hoping she lets me come off it or I can get something stronger to cope with the bile/acid.

Other than that getting more than a bit nervous now, got the hot tub on permanently this week as it's being broken down at the weekend and stored until I'm well enough to use it again so filling my boots now, shame I can't have a glass of wine to go with it..lol

I find it incredible that you have not had a CT scan yet, given the planned surgery and your problems. Yup unbelievable :(.

Also re NSAIDs, I was told none to be taken post bypass. I believe some people are told they can have them wery short term. So how in the Bejeezus were you given them long term?

Seems to be a lot of incompetence here hun. Hopefully tyhere is light at the end of the tunnel and you now have serious and competent people looking after you.

I had a lot of MRI's and CT scans at the request of Miss Rotundo but that was early in the year, this Liver problem has been more recent, my doctor was concerned that it may affect next weeks operation hence the request for an ultra sound.

According to that doctor I saw yesterday GP's can't request CT scans, that has to be done via a specialist.

With regards to the NAIDS at no point did anybody ever tell me that you can't take them post bypass, I have been taking Naproxen in large quantities for the best part of six years since my original operation, have had Lansoprasole as well but it obviously wasn't enough to protect it.

To be honest I think I've been treated badly right the way through but there is little you can do about it. I did try to sue but it's impossible to get any specialist in this country to go against another in court, it's such a small club, they all know each other.

I knew I had Gall Stones prior to my original operation and was told that the Gall Bladder would be removed at the same time as the bypass. They didn't remove it! At that time I had 8 stones. Fast forward three years I had over 20 Gall stones. I was fobbed off by Walsall Manor, Mr Heartland said I would get it done quicker at my local hospital but in the end it turned out that there wasn't a bariatric surgeon in the country that would touch me due to all that previous surgery. I ended up suffering Gall pain like you wouldn't believe for the best part of six years.

Weeks and week on end in hospital on Morphine until it became an emergency, then I get dumped into the hands of poor Miss Rotundo, managed to get through that and thanks to her there might finally be a light at the end of the tunnel.

Some of this is down to me moving and dropping out of the system a little bit, When I came here I actually told my doctor what medication I needed on my repeat, he never questioned it in any way just kept prescribing it.

Last year when I became so ill my district nurses kicked up a fuss at the doctors because it did become apparent that not a single doctor at our practice has a clue about me let alone how ill I was. They were just dishing out the drugs and signing prescriptions without ever checking what they were for, there was nothing in my notes on the computer about the extensive surgery or the various diagnoses I have for other conditions which is ridiculous because the IIH and Chrons are quite serious, several years ago I had a total Hysterectomy due to Ovarian Cancer, to be fair that has been in remission for a long time but the doctors didn't know about it. They just kept saying that their computer system wasn't compatible with my previous doctors and my paper notes hadn't been uploaded but they would get it done (this was three years after registering by the way). After a lot of arguing and intervention from Health Watch my paper notes were eventually found in a carrier bag behind a book shelf (the receptionist told me this herself), so in July 2015 the notes were finally uploaded I first registered there in May 2011.

When I wrote a letter of complaint to the Chief Exec at Walsall Manor following the blunders there I get one back of her that pretty much called me a liar, said my wound was superficial that I hadn't had the surgeries I claimed to have (even though I had discharge notes, shared wards with ladies that post here and elsewhere and have pictures to prove it all) I can't upload pictures here yet but when I can I'll show you just how bad those wounds were, far from superficial, it made me so depressed. So I guess I really haven't been handled well.

Speechless tbh.

Hope that is the end of the being messed about. Hugx

What a calamity, but having come close to litigation with Walsall myself I can understand how you ended up in this situation. Words fail me. I really hope your upcoming surgery starts to resolve your issues so that you can enjoy your life.

Best wishes
