Before WLS...Your Most Successful Diet?

The most successful was the Atkins diet. Meat meat meat, it was great, don't know how much I lost but the cost was tremendous!!

Atkins! I lost 14lb in 2 weeks then another 21lb in the 6 weeks after that, however I started having fruit and new potato cravings then and found out a couple of weeks later I was pregnant!!!

I actually dont know how I lost the weight after I had my son 7 years ago it was about 4 stone

If I had to do a diet again it would probably be slimming world but I would only stick to it for a few weeks then fall of the wagon again and again and again :giggle: .........story of my life lol

atkins and lipotrim lost 3 stone on both of them at some stage but only with lipotrim did i keep 2 stone off befor i plataud and surgery was reccomended to me

Rosemary Conley was mine. I went on it after having my daughter and lost 2 1/2 stone in 12 weeks.

You know what?...I totally forgot about Atkins diet...OMG how could I have forgotten the acetone breath, the itching all over my body when I produced too much keytones and the horrendous kidney pain because I'd all but stopped eating any carbs at all...I was an idiot....But I shrank in size big time...

Now I remember!

(((hugs)))

Ive tried all the diets over the years, but with no willpower I never managed to stick to them for more than a few weeks.

THe only diet that ever worked for me was cambridge. I lost 4 stones in 3 months, came off the diet for a birthday blow out and never managed to get back on it again. I soon regained the 4 stones plus another 2.5 for interest.

Have also tried slimming pills. They didnt work for me either.

You know it's amazing Sam that this story can be repeated time and time again...the only thing that changes is the name of the person doing the diet.

Blimey Sam you've lost 2 stone in under a month...well done!

(((hugs)))

Hi, I have done most of the well known diets the most successful being slimming world, lost 5.4 stones on that, then got pregnant with my 2nd child and yes you guessed it put it all back on again!!!!
At my heaviest I was 19st 10lbs, was nearly 18st when I had the band done and now weigh 12st 11lbs!!!!

Never really managed to lose more than about 2 stone on any diet, but always put it all straight back on anyway, and more! I suppose Reductil from the docs worked best for me, apart from the headaches it gave me.

Cuppacocoa xx

I lost five stones in just over six months by cutting down on fats, sugars and starchy stuff. No alcohol and at least an hour on the treadmill every day. I felt healthier, my skin was amazing, my hair and nails looked the best ever - and then I just stopped and went back to all the wrong things and put on so much weight that my knee has given up and I can't use the treadmill at all.

I reckon I've lost (and regained) over a hundred stones throughout my adult life. Lose five stones, gain six - that sort of thing. I once lost eleven stone in less than a year - but I didn't have a single solid meal the whole year. Even my Christmas lunch was just the water the veggies had been cooked in. Yeah - sensible that one!!! x

I did weight watchers when i was 29 lost six sone got in the mag and all that jazz and now put all back on and some :( mind you that was 11 years ago
still have the mag too how depressing....

When I put up this thread I thought it would be interesting to see which diet was most popular and which one was most successful...(Would help those who still have a long way to wait for surgery)...but almost every single one of you has said that you "lost" lots of weight but "gained" more than you lost.

I don't think there is any doubt as to the affects of dieting...do you?

(((hugs)))

funny story about atkins. i was on it big time and lost loads of weight. i read in a mag that your monthly p's "womans thing" could stop if you go to mad on atkins, mine did stop. so of i went to dr's to tell him, he did a test on me, apprently i had gone through the change and blamed atkins. i'v never had one since. i was 44 at the time.

In my twenties I lost 7 stone on the old F Plan diet. I gained all that seven back and a further 11 stone over the next few years, but I had three fantastic years ;)

Before WLS...What has been the most successful diet you have ever done?

I know we've done them all but when I was just a stone or 2 overweight (when I was in my late 20's early 30's) my most successful diet had to be Slimming Magazine...I hated (and still do) hate Weight Watchers.

Then after years of yoyo dieting it would be Cambridge Diet.

What was yours?...and if you had to go on yet another diet, what would it be?

(((hugs)))

I did Slimming Magazine diet, too, about 20 odd years ago. I lost 5 1/2 stone and was a finalist in one of their regional competitions (didn't win though). It was great, had an all expenses paid trip to London, got to try on some fab clothes, did a photo shoot :)cool:) and had a great meal in a really posh place.
Shame I couldn't keep the wait off .
Not only could I not keep it off, I piled loads more on besides (familiar story, anyone?).
My next best attempt was doing Atkins. I lost 3 1/2 stone, quite quickly, but, yet again, couldn't keep it off.

Again, I have lost weight on all diets and because i am a food addict cant stop once i go into carbs and fats.

Had a long period after follwing and sticking to the F.Plan high fibre foods which i love.

Combined with this in early 20s i started going to keep fit and jogging so weight stayed off, for many years till i was about 33.

After that weight creep up due to lots of drinking, carbs and huge take aways. still did the gym, jog but gained about5 stones in 2/3 years.

Later gave up drink, did not lose any thing.( not drank for about 8 years, use to get terrible hangovers)

Again found a solution in Complusive Eaters anoymous which lasted whilst i keep up the support groups, food plan, and sponsering lost about 3 stones.9 in 3 months)
Food plan was absolutely no grains until you reach maintenance then only very little 3 tbs of certain cereals.
1 piece of Fruit only in the morning, due to sugar content
The whole point of CEA HOW was a sugar free diet for life, yes it works worked for lots of us but the regime and following it for always was'nt to be for me.

Later did various drastic diets , lost 3 stones but could never go lower.
The last diet i lost 4 stones and was on the way up rapidly till i thought enough is enough.

So whilst i have not got a vast amount of weight to lose now, if i had waited another year i would be back at square one.

Talked in depth with my specialist and he agreed a band would be deal for me and obviously i agreed so now i am banded ..........

I was "Slimmer of the Year" for my area in Slimming World. HaaaaHaaaaHaaaaaHaaaa.

I'm with Tiara in that I have lost so, so soooo many stones over the years and still managed to become ++morbidly obese. I'm the only one in my family to have dieted and the only one to be fat. Hmmmmmm.

I know, it's so unfair...all that effort with no reward!...(well until WLS of course)..you certainly have your just reward now Jenni.
