I was done at hommerton by mr koak he is great ..... Well I think he is xx

Me too Jane - he was previously a GI surgeon so didn't have a huge amount of experience but I've had no problems at all. I think the best thing to do is look at their record of ops and if you have any other issues see if they have experience in them, how many (if any) ops and how long they have been doing them and recommendations from patients. Check their aftercare record too as that is just as important x

As the others have said, we are all biased ;-) I was prepared to refuse surgery with anyone other than Torsten Olbers and asked for him specifically (my GP refers to CX by default, but there are a number of surgeons at this hospital). I know Charing Cross are a centre of excellence and very very experienced with this type of surgery. Olbers is from Sweden and comes to the UK every month to do this type of surgery. He's done thousands of surgeries, and deals with high risk cases all the time (I was the least risky on my day of surgery, at 380lbs).
Anyways.. I would advise you to do a lot of research before deciding on a surgeon. There are a lot of very good surgeons in the UK, we are truly blessed.

Farzu, I had my bypass done with Mr Ammori at the Spire in Manchester. You dont need to inform your GP a letter will be sent to them by Mr Ammori it will tell your GP what medication they need to give you and what your aftercare should be. If you put a search into your computer for Mr Ammori you will find his own website on that you can phone his office direct. When i booked last Sept because i had a distance to travel everything was done in 4 days (Thur pre op Fri Bypass and home on Sun) Hope this is of help to you. Good Luck.

Thanks for replying everyone. I have few more questions but will be asking one by one. Do you think aftercare package is essencial if you go so far for the surgery? Is there any aftercare package sold seperately for london?

everyone who went for private surgery.. How did you inform your GP about it? Did you get any papers from the Surgeons who did the surgery? How did you get the after care from local GP? xx

I got a letter when I was discharged, and they recommended that I give it to my GP, but they did not say I had too

Charm, whould you mind if I pm'd you regarding your surgery and experiences with your aftercare etc? I am considering bypass with Mr Ammori at he Spire in Manchester and would dearly love to speak to somebody who has already 'been there, done that'. When I go to the Spire site it seems that there are more than one Hospital where he works from. Just silly questions but I am rather confused and need help lol.
Thanks,
Lynne x

Thanks for your reply hun, I have e-mailed Mr Ammori's secretary yesterdaySince he's has the biggest fan club. May be i will get a reply soon. As you already had the surgery and completed everythin in 4 days. did you ever had to go back for post op checkups? if yoou had then when and how many times? another thing is that, did you get any medications after the surgeryto take home untill ur GP gets everything sorted? will be very helpful if you reply :D xx

Mr ammori sent me home with pain meds and a letter to hand to the gp asap... I had a check up with him shortly after the op, the rest was done by the life style team ie the nutritionist and fitness coach xxx

Farzu - Charing Cross Hospital is the only hospital awarded centre of excellence for Bariatric surgery - you wouldn't even have to travel out of London.
You should consider it :) All their team is amazing, and I can vouch for their patient care :)

hey xx can anyone tell me the price of a gastric bypass performed at the spire in manchester by mr ammori?
