Never been on a forum before, not sure if I'm doing it right! Going in for a gastric band on Thursday, would like to hear about some experiences please!
Having a SILS and wondering what weight loss to expect,

Cannot help re the sils ... I have five teeny incisions....barely noticeable though. I am a very happy bander. Worked with my tool and lost ten and a half stones in total. Achieved my goal of 20st 8 to 12 stones in just under nine months then dropped a bit more, successfully maintaing around the 10st mark now ... Through calorie counting, eating more healthily, greater activity levels all back up by my silicone friend ... And achieving lovely lifestyle balance. Some banders unfortunately do not find it so easy.

Huge Big Welcome :) and best of luck! Throw any questions at us and I am sure you will receive open and honest answers, from lots of banders individual and differing perspectives ...

Hi Betsy and welcome to the site. I'm still pre-op so cannot offer any advice but just wanted to wish you well on your journey and good luck with your surgery! :)

Welcome, Lu had a sils when she had her surgery (check out and post on the band forum asking for people who've had SILS) but whether you're having SILS or not, the weight loss will vary according to you. I'm 6 1/2 months from having my band put in and I've lost 7 1/2 stone in that time . . .and have only just found a level of restriction in my band after my last fill - before that point I could eat anything in any amount I wanted, so my losses came from very strict control of every single thing I ate and a lot of exercise. I walk daily, gym 3-4 times a week swim in addition to that 1-3 times a week too. It hasn't been easy, it isn't easy. Its a lot of hard work, careful monitoring of how and what I eat, but I use my band as the tool it is, it isn't the answer to weight loss, but can help in it.

But I LOVE my band!

Welcome to being nearly a bandit!

I love my band but my port hates me! But it works, I've lost 30kg since last July, the rules are pretty simple and the band is perfect for reminding you not to break them!

I've had great and perfect restriction since last November but it was a few fills and a battle with my surgeon to get there. But wowza when you get there!

Had to look up what sils what, sounds like a good plan, my big scar has been opened up 3 times but it's pretty faded and looking good, the next sized one is just about visible and I struggle to even see the other 3. But getting them all reopened in a couple of months as moving to a bypass due to the port problems.

Good luck on Thursday.
