Bmi banders that started with a bmi under 40 with out co morbilities

ok this has me thinking now. My pcos has been bad and have been thro lots of fertility issues and treatments. Now have 4 kids and been sterlizied (just in case! lol) so question is will any drastice weightloss such as i hope to acheive if my bid for banding is successful improve my horrendous facial and excess body hair?

i really dont have an answer about the facial hair as i havent had it as part of my pcos, my arms were covered in alot of dark fast growing hair which has slowed but not gone away, maybe another mini could answer your question better for you than i can.

julieanne i really dont know as i only started looking into this tonight to help twinkly out, so i rang my team today to find out and they said they dont band anyone with a bmi under 40 with no comorbilities for both private or nhs patients, they said the guidelines are there for a reason for uk surgeons to follow, i can only speak from what ive been told today i cant speak for other surgeons reasons. theres probably a loop hole in the rules but i aint quite worked out what that is yet.

im starting to get on me own nerves now lol.

i will be researching this subject more tomorrow when i can think more clearly.

It can get quite confusing cant it, because as you have said, yes there are guidelines that have to be followed and maybe there are loop holes, but in all honesty whether my surgeon followed these guidelines or not, he has changed my life completely because i know that i couldnt have lost the weight without having the band fitted.

interesting thread. I'm a pre op bypasser and have been lucky enough to get my op on the NHS as I meet NICE criteria...

I may have misunderstood what it is that's trying to be established here, but I thought the majority of people that went for private surgery tended to be those that didnt qualify for NHS help as they didnt meet NICE guidelines? I'd be surprised if there are ANY guidelines for private surgery. If the customer wants it, they are overweight or obese, and they are paying, and they are fit for surgery then I dont see why the surgeon would refuse.

Perhaps Ive got the wrong end of the stick though???

i presumed the same sam until yesterday when i phoned up my surgeon about doing a private op for twinklyhb, they said that the nice guidelines stand for all uk surgeons both nhs or private and there had to be some form of co morbility there for banding to go ahead with a bmi of less than 40. i was suprised as well, but there you go thats something new ive learned.

I was band on 40 but Healthier weight will take you over 35 and over 30 with other problems. they are a firm believer that the sooner you tackle the weight the better. There are too many people putting on weight so that they meet the guidelines. There has to be something wrong with that.

Also as with my PCT not all follow NICE guidelines and set much higher limits. Mine is :

BMI over 45 with type 2 diabetes or BMI over 50 with comorbidities which are likely to be improved with weight loss or BMI over 65 without comorbidities. Patients must have failed to achieve or maintain weight loss after one years intensive management in a specialist obesity clinic setting.

Basically I had no chance unless I was much bigger, eventually I probably would have been but didnt want to take that chance.

Hey all

i had my surgery abroad in belgium by dr chris debryne i had to have a BMI of 35+. mine was 35.2 i had no health problems but an issue with eating and wanted the control back, im 9 days post op and glad i had it done. it cost me a few thousand though.

As you know Liz I had wls with a BMI of 30 because of 20 years of yo yo dieting and laxative abuse and PCOS. I know a lot of people would say it was wrong of the company to do it but Iam eternally grateful that they did it, as already I feel better about the whole thing, and feel back in control again. when I lose the weight I know this time it will be the last time I do it. It is just to nice to feel so easily full and I am still only on the soft food stage.

I have a BMI of under 40 with no Co-Morbidities and am being banded private on Saturday. I do have PCOS but it doesn't cause me much bother.
